Not sure if I'm posting this in the correct forum - apologies if not!
There is a chance that I may be making a trip to the Australian Grand Prix this year and although I've tried to read up on opinions for best location for photos etc, I would really appreciate any thoughts/experiences from any fellow Talk Photography members who have actually been to the race.
Three questions, mainly,
1) Do i take my "full" SLR kit with me in the hope/expectation of taking some good shots or is it a difficult circuit for photos?
2) If good photos are possible, what locations are best? Gen admission or grandstand?
3) If grandstand, which are best? (aware of course that choice of tickets is now becoming limited in some areas).
Thanks in advance for any comments.

Hi,

Whilst I cannot offer you any advice on shooting the Melbourne Grand Prix specifically, I shot the Monaco Grand Prix in 2011 and I found that the absolute key is just to have the fastest mid-range lens possible (that is in the range of 50-300mm, erring at the shorter side). Even in bright daylight, I wasn't achieving the shutter speeds needing to catch the cars from the Grandstand as they came past at over 200 miles per hour.

I was at Albert Lake (the site of the Melbourne GP) last week and there are several good vantage points which would suit a 200mm lens or thereabouts depending on where you got the seats. Generally it is a far, far simpler course to photograph than Monaco owing to a complete lack of obstacles across great swathes of the track.

Joker2006 - many thanks for the reply.
I've now had a look through the earlier post and I'm starting to realise that it's probably not going to be an easy place to take photos without the fencing appearing in the final image!
Regards
