Yes
my son doing a six week holiday to australia

we knew he needed a visa so went through the visa wizard http://www.immi.gov.au/visawizard/ and was granted the visa 26/01/10

i have checked this out with him and all seems ok, but here is where are concern starts
everyone he has spoke to since which includes someone from work who has just gone, a mate who is now travelling with him, high street travel agent when looking at that option, have all said the visa will cost £20

but when using the wizard he has got a visa at no cost, it is an Evisitor visa
we have contacted them via email to clarify he has got the correct visa and got the normal sort of official reply, which really is no more than we can get off their website

the big question here really is i suppose has anyone applied for visa and not paid by using the Evisitor visa
it just seem strange that everyone else he has talked to has paid for their visa

Australia.............dont you love it .......free to British nationals

I have used this eVisitor and no I didn't pay. If you follow the link you have provided it clearly states this. And should a payment have to be made for a standard tourist visa it's £60, not £20. Those people you know of who've paid this £20 may well have paid it to an agency service who kindly charged them for doing something they could have done themselves for free. There are a few of them around.

I went to Aussie in Aug 2008 and my airline sorted the visa out. Didn't even need my passport. No fee changed hands.

I agree. When I went we used Trailfinders for tickets and they offered the service, which included confirmation. They also pointed out you can do it yourself for free. See here.
