There has been a solar flare today which should give good aurora displays about Wednesday for those of you living or visiting the north. Nothing like as big as the one last month but still worth looking out for.

Cheers for the heads up, I'll keep an eye out.

thanks, I'm linked to aurora watch UK but this sounds like a great opportunity!
will charge up the batteries and keep an eye on the weather forecast. pesky clouds!

I linked to aurora watch and double checked a few things
they say their readings are false due to an instrument re-calibration
but your quoted source is separate I take it?

will have to watch this space then...literally!

My source of info is the link posted above, as I said I don't think this will be a large show and the cloud forecast is not good as usual. The chances for me down here in South Wales are remote to say the least but I keep watching and hoping.

X1 class flare released from sunspot 2017 today at 17:48 so could be another chance of aurora shows in a day or two. To early to say if it's heading our way yet but I'll update the thread tomorrow with a better idea of the time and strength of possible displays.

Thanks for the heads up, SpaceWeather suggest a faint Earth directed component; finger crossed.

Dave

Time to start looking for this one is 1am tonight and for 24 hours after that. It's not expected to be a big one but maybe visible from Scotland. That's if you have a clear sky of course.
