Alert for this evening / night.
I fear it will be too cloudy here in North Kent.
 
Went red an hour ago at 633 Nt.

But of course it was too light then.

It's dark enough now and down to amber at 119 Nt.

Not particularly active tonight even though the App shows red over 600 nT. I only managed to capture a couple of shots. I'm in NE Scotland and will post the shots once I manage to process them.

Thanks for your post, I read your post at 9 30 pm last night and then headed out and got my first ever images of the Northern Lights.
 
Got a red aurora alert JUST as we were about to go into the restaurant for my birthday meal! Big dilemma......... :naughty: _9120551-Enhanced-NR.jpg

Afterwards I drove down to Broadwater (Tywyn) and managed a few decent pics although very little was visible to the naked eye. This one for example....... and I remembered to turn the IS off this time.
 
Aurora watch says display in progress now over UK - unfortunately it's overcast here!
 
They were visible outside our front door for a while despite the light pollution in the North West. No opportunity to head out anywhere darker tonight unfortunately :(
 
Thank you OP - I wasn't aware of this happening tonight.

I have always wanted to see the Northern Lights. That night earlier this year when everyone was out - it was only really visible through a camera lens. Tonight is the first time I've ever seen them with the naked eye.

Here is Bodian stunned with what he's seeing.

I managed to get a few good photos.
Never seen it so bright and so red! Some people thought at first that there was a new eruption here in Iceland because the sky was bright red!

I hope all of you got some great pictures!

The red was extraordinary here, although not as extreme as your pic. Here it was barely visible to my naked eye. Thank goodness for cameras which show us what was really there!

It ebbed and flowed here (Lancashire), but at times the reds were clearly visible with the naked eye and really quite vibrant

Very faint down here in Surrey, but not too different from what I could see with the naked eye. Snapped with my Pixel 6 Pro.

What apps are people using to get info on when and where they will be appearing?
 
We drove back quite late and didn't see anything, but others in our village went out and got fantastic pictures. :(
 
If anyone here wants to capture or see these in future, bin off the god awful Aurora Watch app, it's next to useless and only shows cumulative activity up to the current point, go check out the Glendale site/app and join an UK Aurora Facebook group for pointers.

Keeping an eye on the sun weather helps massively... last nights fun was expected a couple of days in advance. I had plans so missed it.

I'd echo this. I mostly use Facebook groups plus also Glendale app.
 
Same here, although unfortunately the Glendale app has been rather overloaded in the last week or so. It hasn't gone down, but has completely stopped providing updates for hours at a time (and at the most crucial time). I can't criticise as it's a service that's provided FoC, but it is really frustrating!

Have you signed up to the Telegram alerts? They've been coming through without issue. What he should maybe do, is if the server gets swamped like this, as a cost effective way, is stream the stats straight to youtube and let them handle the increase in traffic!.

Glendale App is not available on iPhone store however you can add the homepage from Safari as an App on your phone. Which I think Android should be able to do this too.
