Audio CD burning..?

I want to make a couple of cd's to be played on a very basic stereo - one of these - https://www.tesco.com/direct/tesco-ms1701-fm-microsystem/409-7534.prd?source=others
There is nothing in the specs to tell me what format it will play, so am I right to assume the music has to be converted to WAV files, and is there a program that will convert from flac to WAV or whatever is most likely to work ?

Had a quick look and it has a memory card slot which suggests it will play mp3s.
My guess would be if you want CD's then copy your existing ones ( I think its legal!) or rip to mp3.

I can't see one, and the specs say it doesn't...
I used to make a lot of CD's back in the day (20-odd years ago) and had such problems but have forgotten everything I knew since it all became so easy, and I moved over to having everything stored on hard drives or memory sticks...

Sorry I misread it , it looks like all you can do is copy your existing CD's
 
Do you want to made audio CDs from existing FLAC files? Rather than converting to WAV, you want a CD authoring tool. Some general media players have this built in, including iTunes (which lets you burn a playlist to CD) but I don't think it's compatible with FLAC. You might try something like ImgBurn with a FLAC codec:

To avoid getting ImgBurn bundled with adware, install it from Ninite (not the author's site, or a random third party download site):

I use Roxio Creator for audio file conversions. It has an option to burn audio CDs so it just needs to be pointed at the flac files and told to get on with it. It may not be the best product for the job but it's the one I have.....
 
Get the free version of Nero Burning ROM, select create audio CD, drop your mp3, wav files or whatever in, and burn.

I always select a slow burning speed for audio cd's, 16x maybe 24x should be fine, but depends on your burner.

I seem to remember that Roxio was the program I used to use, so I may give that a try.
Slow burning was also the way to go, I think my burner goes down to 8x, so I'll use that.
 
Yep, got to agree with Neil, have used Poweriso for years and have had no problems.

Given the number of times Neil has helped me out with computer questions I had to give Poweriso a try, and have just burnt my first cd, so very many thanks !
Given that I have no idea what an iso or BIN file is I feared it might be a long way over my head, but I needn't have worried.

Don't thank him until after you've successfully played the CD on your home audio system, car CD player, etc.

It's like when you make a computer backup - the job isn't finished when you've made the backup, it's finished when you've proved that you can restore from it. Same here. Your computer can read audio CDs, data disks, DVDs, etc, so if the computer can play music from the disk that's not a valid test. The way to prove it's OK is to play it in a machine that can only play audio CDs.

(Apologies if this was obvious!)

Thanks Stewart, I dug out an old portable Cd player to test them on first and have now heard back that they do work on my friends machine, so the world is a happy music-filled place..!
 
bit of googling suggests might play mp3 tracks from a cd, worth a go.

OK, so how did you find this out Mr Bump...? I googled, read what I found and didn't get any info about what it might or might not play.
This isn't the first time I've got nowhere and others seem to get results, so am I the world's most incompetent googler or what..?
Obviously I'm going to have to buy more blank Cds and make up disc full of mp3's to give it a try now..!

I found a few ebay auctions and looked at a few similar models as it looks like it is a slimmed down version of the

But unless I've mis-read it, there's nothing in that eBay listing which suggests it can read MP3 files from a CD. It says it has an MP3 connection, but that's the USB socket on the front.

I wouldn't bother. Reading MP3 files from a CD is a completely different operation from reading audio files, and there's here's no reason to suppose this machine can do it.

that's correct but the USB socket will just be linked to the same DAC converter which will be decoding the CD signal from the laser, that's how all these machines read mp3 files from CD it just gets fed to a 30pence DAC and bingo.
