I think your good self and awp have a deal of trouble distinguishing between what you call 'free speech' and what I call 'manners'

Its about courtesy, politeness and consideration for others

Well imo the best way to look at it is, put a responce that you would feel acceptable if it was aimed at you? If that makes scence lol.
 
I'm not disagreeing. Just the heavy handed way it's being done. Everybody needs to lighten up around here.

Just as an aside - why don't any of the mods use their own pics in their avatars instead of hiding behind nicked pics of the internt? I find that unnerving - and not very friendly.

How is it heavy handed?

A thread started by a moderator pretty much saying "come on you lot, we are better than this, lets be more welcoming to the new members" is hardly heavy handed!

as has been said, talk to others as you would want to be spoken too. Im all for calling a spade a spade, but the pack mentality that has been permiating some threads has saddened us. this is a very friendly place, but its a place that Myself, Marcel and DF own and operate, and along with our mod team, expect people to behave in a certain way (that goes for behaviour, abusing our members, trying to pimp your wares on members..)

The friendly atmosphere that we once had as slipped, we want it back.

No. Sometimes it needs a jolt to get the message across effectively, the polite requests on this have been roundly ignored..until now.

how many do we have to have? do a search on threads asking for better behaviour and a bit of respect, its not like its not been talked about often.

one or two do use there own, as for the rest just be glad they don't :D

there are not many people who use pictures of themselves as avatars on the net. I dont want to have my picture on every post I make, I know what i look like

For anyone who has maybe forgotten the rules there is a very pertinent section here.

Maybe those who were suspended should have taken the time to re-aquaint themselves with the content and in particular this section:

No offensive, rude or derogatory comments towards another member.
No insults or personal attacks towards other members.

Please have respect and offer courtesy. If you can't say anything in a civil manner...don't say anything at all.
Disagree by all means, but criticise the thought, not the thinker. Healthy discussion is welcomed and encouraged, but we can all do so without being rude or using nastiness towards each other.
No telling members to 'use the search' in an abrupt or rude fashion.
No criticising a member if they post something that has already been posted.
Please do not criticise staff decisions publicly. Instead, use the Contact Us link to resolve things privately and amicably.

hopefully better. no-one likes suspending people (except maybe Dod) but sometimes harsh actions are required. If we were ban happy then people like Jolsterj wouldnt still be posting (and no, im not picking on her, its a fact.)
 
No personal attacks on another member..........................good god i have had loads against me.

i didnt read anymore that one made me laugh out loud.

I have not done anything interesting on here for ages.

In fact it is only threads like this one that get a lot of attention.

And as for mod's avatars. There is a Court Order preventing some of them from publishing their pictures. Images that are a little less frightening have been substituted.
