I'm sure I've seen some sort of plate attachment that allows you to use a sling carrying strap and still be able to fit a tripod without undoing the strap.

I've tried googling it, but can't seem to find what I'm after.

Does anyone have one? Or has anyone looked in to them? Or even just know what such a thing might be called so I could google the name?

Or did I dream it and nothing like this exists?

The Peak Design sling strap uses a plate which has arca-swiss tripod connection

The Op-Tech sling strap and peak Design Sling straps can both connect to the standard strap lugs rather than a tripod mount plate if required, leaving the tripod socket free.

I use a carry speed FS-2s along with carry speed straps and spider holsters. But it is limited as to how far it can be inserted into a clamp (it's better w/ average/smaller clamps).

The Spider plate is similar (but bulkier and more obtrusive IMO). On both of those the pin can be replaced w/ a BR eye type connector.

And the (expensive) Custom SLR M-plate is similar to the spider plate. It's better balanced IMO, but more prone to being obstructive w/ shorter lenses.

There is the Peak Design plates for their straps, but they are not sling type. They might be usable w/ Op-Tech sling straps, IDK. Op-tech sells a plate for their sling straps, but I think any Arca Swiss plate with a strap loop would probably work as well.

There is also the Fusion Plate which I think is better for the clip type straps, but it's not compatible w/ spider holsters (more important to me) and the strap needs to be removed. IMO, that's not really a negative... having a strap blowing around in the breeze is counter productive to tripod use.

The last two are the least obtrusive using a gripped camera in portrait orientation.
There are probably other options I'm unaware of.

Depends on what is on the end of your sling really. I had a cheapy one off ebay that had a clip on the end can came with a (also cheap) plate. I now use a Joby which just has a screw to screw directly into the tripod hole. So I have a tripod QR holder which I can screw the Joby strap to and then lock the QR plate on the camera to. I also use a leash (black shoe lace) in case the whole thing falls apart. It's a bit bulky but cheapish. :)

Something like this

I use a PD slide and clutch and never have to remove the Arca plate so have the best of all worlds.....

The new PD slings currently on Kickstarter suggest they have an even thinner (but just as strong) Anchor loop which they show fitting under any tripod QR platform.

I think they are due to be available any time now.

I already have the Joby sling. It was just a right PITA the other night trying to undo it in the dark with cold fingers.
Of course even if you CAN fit it to your tripod with the strap still on... you might still want to remove the strap to eliminate camera shake - especially when windy the strap catches the wind.

Ah. Ok. That makes a lot of sense.

The strap also has the tether cord so I don’t think i’d be removing it in an hurry.

Looks like the whole process would take some forethought. In which case I may as well just stick with what I have.

I do like the look of those quick release clamps but they seem very expensive (for me) as I hardly ever use a tripod. I was just looking for a relatively cheap solution.
