Attaching a flash and trigger to a light stand

I have a flash trigger that attaches to my speedlight by hotshoe and I'd like to know how to attach it to a light stand. The trigger can be attached to a tripod. So how can I attach it to a stand??? Any ideas???
 
There should be a 1/4" thread on the underside of the receiver, depending on the type of lightstand you have you can either attach it directly to the thread on the top of the stand, or if you are using an umbrella adapter (recommended) then the receiver can simply be attached to the top of that, either directly or by mounting it on a coldshoe.

Thanks but it still doesn't help. The speedlight attaches to the trigger by hotshoe so the only way to attaches the 2 to a stand is via the 1/4 thread hole on the underside of the trigger. My light stands are a lot thicker, so I need to find something to attach to the light stand and has a thread to fix it to the trigger if you get what I mean.
 
Get some pics of your light stand and trigger Lyn or some links to what you have, might help people solve your issue :)
 
Sounds like your stands have 3/8" threads on the end of the spigots, what flash and triggers are they?

I usually use a cable to link the flash to the trigger on mine as I don't like the weight of the flash and trigger sitting on the thread in the base of the trigger. If using umbrella adaptors you'd also need to mess with an adaptor to fit a cold shoe foot to the base of the trigger.
 
I might have an adapter that will sort the problem for you, Lynn. If you could et me know the make of triggers and stands, or better still let me see pics of the two threads I'll see what I've got in the spares box :thumbs:
 
couldnt be easier, use Manfrotto mounts as on my giottos legs

JSER - they're quite expensive though aren't they and not specifically designed for lightstands by the look of it? They look very usefl for clamping speedlights onto objects - are they part of the superclamp family or do they have another name?

It's worth checking on fleabay for alternative prices for these - I know the ballheads can be had for about £8 plus P&P, not sure about the other. All depends on the overall quality you want. There are some really posh ones out there too....

Price is a little high BUT, I have only ever bought these two, and whereas light stand ones can only be used on light stands these ban be used on stands, tripods, trees, gates, car windoes, almost anything you can clamp to so saving a small fortune in the long run.

Jser - yeah, they look useful. May have a look for something like this just have for those times when stands agent an option :)
 
I know the initial outlay is a little more than a head, but, these have replaced a gorilapod, clamped on branches and street furniature such as seats and railings, where in crowds you could not get a tripod or even wanted to carry one, and more.

You can buy a clamp with a ballhead from Maplins that holds a flashgun with ease, for £10.....
