Yes
start buying bodies for your lens system? Did you have one lens, two or more before you felt you were committed to a particular system?

For me I think it was when I bought my second "expensive" (I wish I still considered it an expensive lens ) lens - the 80-200 f/2.8. Before that I think I could have jumped ship at any time, but once I'd bought that I somehow felt that I would be sticking with Nikon.

i commited to nikon a long time ago even when i could only afford one body and one lens

I think about going for Nikon for just one reason....I love D3 :D so that is why I dont buy new lenses at the moment ;) but now when 5DII is on the way and prices wont be much of a difference I will wait to see how 5DII performs...( I wish it would have built in grip like D3 does ;) )

Interestingly the thing that kept me with Nikon (after casting envious eyes at the Canon 5D) was the Fuji S5 Pro.

If that hadn't come along, I suspect I'd gone D200->Canon 5D.

I'm pretty agnostic about the whole "system" thing - I have a Canon 5D MKII on pre-order and I'll happily shoot both.

I have a 400D that is going to be replaced with a 30D, a 50D is on its way to me as of Thursday.
I am tempted by a EOS 3 as well.
my lens focal length will be from 17-200mm at almost all f/2.8 or faster come end of January so its not too bad a collection that can be shared against 3 body's

My turning point was when i got my sigma 150mm and canon 85mm at the same time. I havent looked back but always keep an eye open if Nikon produce something that could make me jump ship. but as it stands now canon is the system i will be sticking to!

Well I was moving up from a Canon bridge camera,so looked at the Canon
350D first, but did not like the feel of it.
I then looked at the Nikon D80 and liked it,I then (unlike me)read all the reviews on lenses and was convinced (mainly by Ken Rockwell) that the Nikkor 18-200 VR was the bee's knees and the only lens I would ever need.:shake:

So I bought the D80 with a 18-200 and being at the time £499 for the lens,
didn't feel like changing systems.

Having got the 17-55 2.8 since plus a few others,I am staying with Nikon

I have now got the D300 so am quite happy............;)

i committed to Nikon when i bought a D40X, no going back

will want more stuff in the future no doubt though

I had a D200 and bought a D3 I thought it was too big and heavy for my requirements so sent it back and changed to a 5D system. Only regret is the AF speed D200 and D3 are much quicker focussing than the 5D even with the 70-200L f2.8 IS.

I love my ultrawide angle lenses 12-24 Sigma and 17-40L on the full frame body though and I don't need the Af speed for them.

for sports photography canon was the best option - before the d3 and the canon 1dmk3...

the canon 20d was rubbish for sports but the 1d (mk1)was fantastic

Nikon have the 200-400f4 which is a fantastic lens, but they don't have the 100-400, the 400 f5.6 or the 200 f 1.8 but they do have the d3....

There is no stopping what can't be stopped, there is no killing what can't be killed.

Three bodies, I started with a 20D then bought a 5D. Sold the 20D and bought a 1Ds MkII. Lenses? I've got everything from 15mm which is blooming wide on a FF camera right through to 400mm. (I don't need a 600mm for weddings yet, the brides are not that hostile... yet)

I'll stick with Canon for a couple of reasons. One I've already bought it all and really don't need to change. Better ISO performance would be nice but I'll manage with a mere 1600 for now.

It would cost me an absolute fortune to change, why would I want to do that for a slightly increased ISO performance.

Canon make blooming good kit. I'd much rather shoot with optics that I can get f1.2, f1.4 and f1.8 than have to up the ISO at all.

Now I've got most of the lenses I need for pro level work it would be madness for me to go anywhere else.

Thats a very sensible way of looking at things, especially when you have the lovely primes, such as the Canon 35mm f/1.4L. Essentially lenses like that allow you to shoot 1 stop lower iSO anyhow.

My own personal opinion that folks are too prepared to up the ISO when actually in many cases the solution is to buy better, faster glass.

I have just got a Nikon D80 with 18-70DX lens having just moved on from my Nikon F301 only have a couple of lenses for that 24mm E series and a standard 50mm. will be looking to get a new lens partner for the D80:). I'm not sure what to go for just yet.

My (still quite small) collection started with Nikon film bodies (F100 and 801 - still have them both) but I didn't much like the early Nikon digis. Then along came the S2 Pro - good for portraits, nice skin tones - and I was hooked. An S3 Pro followed pretty quickly after and then Nikon digis started to look very, very tasty. I think my next body will be a D700 (D3 would be great, but I can't really justify the extra cash) and then a 105 macro.

I keep hoping Mr JG will forget me saying when I got the F100 'this is the last camera I will every need' How wrong can you be. :bonk:

to be honest the thought of changing from canon to nixon has never crossed my mined, I bought a 10d and was pleased with it and have just added to it since. I must add if I had of bought a nixon instead I would have done the same thing as I belive there is very little if any advantage of one of the top makes over the other

I had the 40D from the start and inherited a 1D mk1 a few months back, and although I did take a few shots on a D3 as a favour for someone, I am very happy with mine as my targets are usually moving plus I now have the lenses I want. I am thinking about selling the 1D to go to the mkII, and of course when I start collecting primes I may need another body to go with them

Been happy with Canon since I first bought the 400D and nifty 50. See no reason to change, besides, I still can't for the life of me get used to the position of the main dial on the Nikons. And I like the big thumb wheel Canon give you.

EDIT: I also can't see me ever missing a shot because I was using Canon and not Nikon. Nor having a client say, "that'd be nicer if it was shot on a Nikon."

Been with Canon since T90, then EOS 650 + 1000.
Bought Canon 400D cause it seemed the logical thing to do.
And I had the lenses.
Once I get someLglass, I might get another body.

The day i committed was the day the 350d arrived on my door. Once i got using it, there was no turning back. I have never personally liked Nikon cameras and i can say that so far i still dont. I will be sticking with canon for a long time.

My misses just moved from Nikon to Canon after playing with my 40d. She went from a d50 to a 30d, but then she only had a 18-55 kits lens and a 70-300 zoom, so wasnt heavily invested. She now loves the canon and loves using my lenses! Haha!

I started with Canon when I bought the 350D because at the time it was the best budget SLR.
I was committed to Canon after I bought my first L lens (70-200F4) . To be honest never I've even thought about switching to another make, no reason to was completely happy with Canon just went out and took lots of photos :D
Since got a 105 and 150 Sigma macro in Canon mount and the 100-400L so no turning back now :).
In fact got the 40D at the end of 2007

Nikon bodies just fit me better than the Canons (or any other manufacturer) and since none of the manufacturers produces any carp kit, I'm perfectly happy with my system of bodies and lenses. Just need someone to give me a D700 and I'll have almost everything I want!

Been using Nikon since my first Nikon FE circa 1980.

Held Canons but never felt right for me.

For me, it was when I bought my second dSLR. I had a 300D for about a year and a half. I'd got a few lenses for it and had sold one or two of them, so sticking with Canon seemed the only option to me. I'd only ever used Canon SLRs (or, more precisely dSLRs), so the 20D seemed a good choice. I only kept that for about three months, but that's another story.

Had a 35mm EOS and some (cheap) glass from years ago... it was quite simply the best camera I'd ever had and then some... had a 350D when I decided to give photography a bit more of a go, chopped that for a 30D and used that for quite a while...

Would have been perfectly happy to buy another Canon if Canon could have actually moved things along suffuciently for my next requirements. Would have been a whole less complicated if that had happened, but oh noooo, they have their own agenda to pursue and its not anywhere near mine. Left me with the choice of a 1D MkIII or a complete start again on the kit bag with Nikon...

I took the cheaper option, simple as that.
