Had an email from NASA asking if they could have permission to upload one of my pictures to their web site and also for their archive of astronomy photographs. I said yes (who wouldn't !!) and suddenly today I start getting emails telling me its the Astronomy Picture of the a day ! somewhat amazed !

I reckon Carl Sagan would have loved that shot.

Kudos! Lovely shot.

You sound surprised! That is one seriously great capture

Place it with a good agency and you could make some money.

Never mind picture of the day - should make picture of the month!

Brilliant shot on all fronts.

The problem with the NASA site is that one is vying for palace against other images from spacecraft like voyager, the mars rover curiosity , space Hubble telescope etc. so picture of the day is fine by me - but thank you anyway for such a nice compliment.

That's something special!....looks like another world, like a still from a Si-fi movie.
Congrats, we'll deserved.

Hats off to you.
What a result, well deserved

That's a great picture - congratulations on having it picked up. Just curious, do you know how the APOD people found it in the first place?

Spectacular. I appreciate the effort involved after standing in a field for 2-3 hours in -14 in April to capture the Northern Lights.

It is amazing how much more shows up on the camera than you actually see. I saw pinks and purples in my photos that I didn't see with the naked eye.

In response to Fred-BT question. I have no idea how they found it - the image of Kirkjufell was on my own personal web site and the original email from NASA gave a copy of a link to that - like many organisations they have their methods ! Scary !!

Just shows how posting online can be seen by anyone (whether you intend it or not) and in this case a good thing that the quality of that image can be shared by those with a similar interest. Good work.
