Evening,

Just wondered if someone could assist me. I generally use Lightroom and now started to use Picassa due to Photographing an event.

Picassa was great for the event as it was simple to browse files and crop them tp the correct size. Now the size i was using was 6x9" so i set this as custom crop size, selected this on the photo and cropped to the exact dimension of the printer.

What i dont get is that the image would only need slight cropping, so can not have been much bigger than 6x9" itself but i dont get where this would be set, and it must be straight forward logic but cannont get my head around this.

Following on from this i wonderd if there was anyway to crop to a set dimension in Lightroom like mentioned above? as this is what i prefer to use and would like to make sure my crops are the same sizes.

Thanks for any help offered.

You can specify the crop in LR.

Doesn't your camera produce uncropped 9x6 anyway?

ah, dont suppose you can point me in the right direction so i can check?

well its set at 3:2, but what i cant get my head round is what dimensions that is set to? how i know its 6x9"

thanks

In Lightroom you can set a ratio - it's one of the options that comes up when you click on the crop rectangle.

If you do 3*3 = 9, and 2*3 = 6 - so 3:2 and 9:6 are the same ratio.

i get the math.

okay i load an image up in picassa and set to crop 6x9, fits inside my image, if i set 12x18 would this still fit or would this be too large for the image?

Does that make sense?

cheers

If I understand you correctly - how big the print will go is up to you and how happy you are with the quality.

This will tell you what size you can print a file of a certain pixel dimension at a certain DPI (Dots per inch).

The standard for prints is reckoned to be 300dpi but you might well be happy with a fair bit lower.

2x3, 6x9, 8x12, 12x18, 20x30 etc are all same ratio.
