Will the Nikon aspect resolution work with the standard 7x5, and 10x8 and 12x10 prints?

What is the least recommended resolution I can use for 10x8 and 12x10 prints?

I have one or two cropped photos that work out at about 4.5 million pixels that I might want to print in 10x8.

Don't get to hung up on image resolution. Theory says that an 8 x 10 print @300dpi needs around an 18Mb file. or about that from an older canon 300D.

I have a 300D, which I used a few years ago. I have had some 20" x 30" prints produced from those images, and they are sharp, not noisy and aren't pixalated to hell. It's really all down to how you handle the original file. OK mine were RAW and not over sharpened, in fact hardly any sharpening at all. I let the printer do the sharpening.

So will you be able to get an 8 x 10 from your files-probably. I wouldn't bother resizing, all it does is add extra pixels where there weren't any so your not gaining anything, possibly even making things worse.

If the image is sharp, not over sharpened, it'll probably be OK, unfortunately there is only one way to find out.

There are lots of posts on here about this topic.
What it comes down to is pixels per inch and dpi . If you know what resolution your printer uses then you can work out how big your image needs to be.
If its too small then you can upsample to "fill in" and smooth the transitions, but I've not needed to do this yet

Nikon's standard aspect ratio is 3:2, isn't it? So you can't make 7x5, 10x8 or 12x10 prints without cropping. But you can do 6x4 or 12x8.
