Last Wednesday I put a private plate on the car, did the transfer online and the details showed up within the hour on DVLA website as taxed and MOTed the insurance was changed to the new reg at the same time by phone call and shows on my insurance website as the new reg, I have printed the new cover note also, but on AskMID the reg is showing as not insured, how long does it take to update as we are going on holiday in a few days and really don't want pulling up every time a police car spots us.
 
I wouldn't worry.
Askmid is a public-facing industry website, I doubt very much that's what the cops use to check out cars.
I doubt the backroom boys who refresh the online database are working today.
Even if you are pulled, it would only be once. You have the cover note, which can be verified with your insurer, and any police records relating to your vehicle would then be updated.

I believe Insurance companies have up to 7 days to submit the changes to the MID. As long as you've got your covernote you'll be fine. The police would also contact your insurance company to verify it is not fake.
 
I changed cars recently, took 4 days to appear on askmid, had traffic cops behind me before askmid had been updated but never got pulled, obviously cops use a different database I assume otherwise I think my car would have flagged up on their computer.
