Asked short notice to shoot a wedding, looking advice/help.

Don’t take this the wrong way, dont use the Z8, until you know it, a wedding is not the event to test something out, use a camera you know.
The wedding was yesterday, I took a Z8 and Z50II. I've owned a Z8 since release and use it often to cover lots of different subjects. I'd say I know it well.

I've a new found appreciation for wedding photographers and a confirmation that it's something I'll never do again.
It was very stressful but overall they look to have turned out pretty good.
A very long day starting with a 6:30am trip to the hotel and 9pm finish, after first few dances. I'm completely wrecked.
The two guys in charge of rounding up the group shots done a decent job and they were reasonably quick to get through.

My only criticism is the "barn" was incredibly dimly lit, practically fairy lights for the dance shots and I struggled to get focus, even when put into in starlight mode.
But there's a few keepers and I'm happy enough with that.
It was after 11.00 I got home from mine saturday, You lucky blighter,,,, ;)

Once upon a time I did what was snootily called "banquet photography"; basically "smile pleases" at dances and such like.

Getting home at midnight was considered to be shirking... :naughty:

You're an alien species to my one if you can find fun in that!!! :)

I mean that in an admiring sense.

I'd find a wedding very stressful.

I used to run business courses for people wanting to explore Wedding Photograph as a business

My opening question to all attendees was...

Put your hand up if you think Wedding Photography is stressful, and you'll have sleep issues before shooting one?

Then I'd say something like - if you put your hand up you're probably not suited to becoming a Wedding tog!

I've never found them stressful, but some are defo more fun than others

I can understand that. I work an area where problems will make the news bulletins, so it's a different kind of stress. When the baloon goes up I tend to operate at my best.

What I would find different on such a day is the amount of moving parts, and the high value nature of the product.

I guess that it takes all sort of tempraments!

From the technical side, I've wondered how to, for example, get all the detail of a lace in a wedding dress, while retaining some detail in the groom's suit? Using film. I'm guessing that I would favour shadows and let whatever latitude I have become my friend. That and some bracketing. I must try it out with some fabric at home.

I cant say I've ever really found them stressful, I normally really enjoy them. The closest I suppose is way back in film days shooting two weddings a day, I only did it once, that was enough worry that the mornings would run late.
I've done I think three I didnt enjoy over the years, no idea why. The people were nice and the weather held, my head just wasnt in it.
