ASDA do it again

I don't feel I was rude to the cashier, but feel instead I was making a valid point. The only way to retaliate was to user her powers to ask me to make a separate transaction. If you hadn't have sold it to me I'd have formally complained to the store manager. I had ID, and I feel the point I was making was completely valid and justified.

I do know exactly what you are saying but under the rules I have read I could not sell it to you knowing she was 17.

As silly as it sounds and it is silly that is the ''rule''

My manager would of backed me I'm afraid and has done so many times.

We would rather lose a customer than be fined or sent to prison.

I do think the application of the laws is crazy, the local bargain booze will not serve people even with ID if your not 25. Its a pain in the ass! My GF can get served in the pub but she can't buy anything if we want a drink in the house when having a meal etc.

I am all for ID'ing people I still get ID'd in some shops at 26, I don't mind at all but come on if your over 18 your old enough to drink.

Okay, hypothetically speaking, what if I was with my daughter. I'm 29 and she's 13. What then?

Absolutely agree.
If you can fight for your country, you can have a drink when you come home.

Depends how old I thought you were.

If I thought you were over 25 then fine.

If I thought you were under with no id then I would not serve you.

So just because I'm with my girlfriend who is 17, you wouldn't serve me.
What about if I was with my daughter, and I have ID but she is only 13.
Say I was 29 and with my 13 year old daughter and I have ID.
Serve me then?
I could be buying alcohol for her just as much as I could be buying for my girlfriend.
When I was 13 my parents allowed me a few alcopops at family events.

If you don't mind me saying, that is completely ludicrous. This country needs to shape up.

I agree with you.

But I still have to do with what the guidelines tell me too.

The whole thing is flawed.

Let me tell you something else.....I cant sell you a knife unless you can prove you are 18 if not it is think 25

this includes a cutlery set.

but does not include a pocket knife with a blade two inches or less.:bonk::bonk:[ it is something like that my form is in work cant remember the exact wording]

This is why I not signed the form yet it is full of inconsistancys.

Also if I refuse to sell a knife to someone i have to take their name and address and report them to the police...... like they are going to give me that

So to end this I agree that some of it is just mad, but I dont wanna lose my job, get fined or go to prison so I do as I am told and upset people but hey ho ....whatever.

Unfortunately these rules are being misinterpreted like many others. A friend of mine went into a supermarket and was asked to provide ID as she was buying wine. She was 23 at the time and didn't object and showed her ID. She was then told she couldn't buy the wine as she was under 25! :bang:

You can sell it to her if she proves shes 18

with no id you have to think she is over 25...

Yes I know, but that was my point. The assistant had interpreted the rule as meaning she had to be over 25. Unfortunately my friend didn't take it any further so she left without the wine.

I know, I know, but where do you draw the line of age?
Is it okay to sell alcohol to a 60 year old if they're with a 10 year old? Is it okay to sell alcohol to a 30 year old if they're with a 17 year old?
What about an 18 year old with their 17 year old girlfriend?

It's the same rule, so why is it different?
That's my point.

I dont draw the line I use my head and if in doubt refuse.

If hassle occurs I would call my manager and pass the buck so to speak.

I cant really comment on the situation because I dont know what you look like.
You may look really young? I have no idea.

I asked for id last week thing the lady was about 20 and she was 37. so i am pretty crap at it, which is why i am sooooooooo cautious.

How old I look is irrelevant, I always carry ID.

What I am making a point of is why does everyone I'm shopping with have to be ID'd? You wouldn't ID someone's child if the mother was buying a packet of cigarettes, would you?

And logically, who in their right mind would buy alcohol/cigarettes, and then immediately pass them over, at the counter, to the person they're buying for.
If my brother asked me to get him some beer I wouldn't bring him in the shop with me!

OK The law is rubbish and I will serve whoever I want. And ask FOR ID WHEN i SEE FIT AND REFUSE TO SERVE IF I SEE FIT..

Please stop i have a headache and i agree with you the law is sooooo flawed on this subject which is why we as shop asistants are soooooo cautious.

dont you get that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

im finished here.

i've never heard of anyone being asked for ID when buying class A drugs. Its easier to get bag of Smack than it is to buy an alcopop.(so i'm told)

i'll get my coat

I do have some sympathy for jolsterj. He knows it's plain crazy too but like all the rest of us needs a job to survive.

jolsterj is me and I am a female................................lol........................and on that note can we finish it?

please
