UPDATE!

This will now take place on Saturday 18th October, there is a possibility of extending it to Sunday 19th if enough people stay for the Saturday evening, but it may not happen so if you're coming come on the Saturday.

Any questions just ask.

We will meet at Grounds Coffee Shop at 10 http://www.arundel.org.uk/details/grounds we'll be there for a while and then move on to enjoy the best that Arundel has to offer. For late-comers I'll make sure I email everybody with my mobile number so that you can catch up

___________________________________________________________________________________

.After the success of the recent Edinburgh meet (apart from Strappy's appalling choice of restaurant obviously) who fancies a trip to Arundel sometime soon?

It's a great location with two of the most notable tourist attractions being http://www.arundelbrewery.co.uk who've just opened their first shop and the Aladdin's cave that is http://www.arundel-photographica.co.uk

I believe there's also a castle, a wildfowl and wetland centre, antique centres, museums, the river etc etc etc http://www.arundel.org.uk/attractions

If there's enough interest for September/October I'll put some dates up. There are cheapish train fares to be had from Southern at the moment so the sooner we can sort out a date the cheaper it will be to book.

Can't make any promises as it is a bloody long way from oop north but if the CMS is interested we may be able to make a weekend of it. Certainly looks an interesting place and Jan would like the wildfowl centre whilst we were out geeking.

It is a great destination for a weekend away, lots to do even for the geek averse.

....and my motorbike is still in the garage :(

Count me in. I went to university in Brighton and can recommend a great little place for din... Oh, never mind :(

Anyway, Nick, this brewery - will you be arranging a small drinks session, by any chance? ;)

I would like Arundel in either month,September for end of summer colour or October for the influx of wildfowl in the reserve. Both or either would be good. The river at this time of year also provides excellent opportunities.

Let the train take the strain Brian

I've looked on their website and it doesn't look like they do brewery tours but I have it on good authority that there are some excellent pubs in the town where we'll be able to sample some of the local produce :D

I have been to Arundel but a good few years ago now I think it could be a great place to visit late summer/early autumn.

I'm game, would have to be October for me though. Will have to make a weekend of it as there's no way I'd be able to get to Arundel and back from Leeds in a single day!

I only live eight miles from Arundel and didn't know that camera shop was there. Will have to go and take a look :)

What are the typical prices like in Arundel Photographica? On a par with Ffordes for example?

I've no idea, I've never been there and there are no prices on the website. Should be interesting

Prices tend to be pretty good from memory. That being said, I've only shopped at Ffordes once before, and that was for my Ebony... so I've no idea tbh!

Prices are usually quite good for most things and he usualy has all sorts in stock. I am sure that there is some leeway for haggling too.

Has this been forgotten about?

I was waiting patiently in line as didn't want to gate crash Chris's Warwick meet but I think Chris has been a bit busy so I'll sort out some dates late September/early October while there's still a reasonable chance of decent weather.

Early to mid October would be best for me  :p

I have been to Arundel a few times, its the home of my Royal Family Connection. The Howards and have never seen that shop before, its now on my to visit list for the next time.

If the forth Duke had not had his head chopped off I would be rich now, How I hate QE1

Paul

Arun -where ??? Where's me map... ;)
What dates are you thinking about ??

There's a thread polling for dates here.

Arundel is in Sussex, badly served by signs when you go west from Brighton - basically, there aren't any until you arrive!

Based on there being no further activity in the poll thread and Nick's post below ...

OK, the 18th and 19th it is as long as everyone else is ok with that.

Can I put the 18/19th October into my diary as a definite?

Arundel is large enough for people to get lost in. Is there a specific meeting place and time, or is the idea to just turn up and look for a few odd people with interesting cameras?

It's been done before  Normally we're pretty easy to spot, nobody with any sense walks around with the amount of camera kit we all turn up with.

I'll pick a time and place to meet nearer the time, once we know exactly who's going and how they're getting there, I think a few are coming by train so we''ll probably start near the station as film togs can wander off if they're not supervised properly.

Amazing... My motorbike is still in the garage waiting for carburetor parts...you'd think someone in the world would have 4 floats  Anyway I'm looking for a 250cc motor bike in the mean time like:- Yamaha SR 250, or Suzuki GN 250 or CB 250 or Suzuki TU 250X if anyone knows someone that has got one going cheap? jeez at my age I could be dead by the time my Honda 750 is fixed.

@excalibur2 Is it a particularly rare Honda 750 Brian? My brother has rebuilt quite a few classic bikes, both British and Japanese and has a whole list of specialist suppliers that he uses.

Thanks Nick.....It's a Honda 750cc F2C 1981 and it's probably an ordinary Honda 750 but has a fairing...someone gave me this link http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/CB750F2C-1982/part_97200/ but the guy has only two floats, and 3 weeks ago finally (after giving the link to the garage in May) told the garage to put a definite order in for four floats as the seller wasn't going to find four without a definite order.

You guys planning to stay overnight?
It's just one hour away from London so maybe one day would do... ?

That's more for the benefit of folk that travel from oop north, for the Edinburgh meet there was a good mix of locals and people that travelled. So if there are going to be any people making a weekend of it, it's good if the rest of the gang don't b****r off after the first pint. It's not compulsory but it's there as an option.

I'm planning to drive down, it's only an hour and a half from home. Wasn't thinking of staying over but I'd be happy to reconsider if we're making a night of it :)

I went to Arundel on Tuesday Mill Lane Car park is 5 for the day and Mill Lane is free parking on one side just past the national speed limit signs.

As a suggestion for a meeting place how about Jubilee Garden ?

It is at the end of Mill Lane by the bridge over the river and opposite the castle the camera shop is in the Bridge Antiques Centre just over the road there are more tea rooms within five minuites walk than you can shake a stick at the wetlands centre is 10 - 15 minutes walk and the cathedral maybe five.

The Black Rabbit at the end of Mill Lane is a great place to catch a sunset in October and gets good reviews by some at least.

Literally just been into photographica. Was bit tricky to find as it's actually just a room upstairs in the antiques shop.

Lovely stuff in there most of it in excellent condition and I would say fairly priced for what your getting (not an expert but seems to tie with what I've seen).

He also has a selection of bits and bobs like cases l and straps. He replaced a missing screw in my Zenit and I had to force some money on him.

I would certainly think of them if I was after something specific.
