Arundel Film Meet 18th October

A quite common reaction is you don't want one of those you want one of these as some one waves a digital compact at you .... earlier this year followed by " I'm FRPS and written three books you know ......"

I should be able to get to Arundel so Sinar F2 10x8 Zeiss Ikon Super Ikonta IV and Nikon F5 I suppose.

Patterson system IV universal tank free to a good home will probably come for the ride too.

Hi Guys can I hijack this thread for a brief moment, as some of you may know I am off on holiday and I always carry my camera in my hand luggage but as I am also taking my Canon AE-1 and lenses this time was wanting to put them in the suitcase along with the film.

Questions:-

1 - Will the film and camera be ok in the hold?
2 - Will they check the suitcase if they scan it and see the film holders?

I know strange questions but never had to carry film before.......

Personally i wouldn't put cameras in the hold ...i cringe when i see how luggage is thrown about ( regardless of airline).

That said, if it's buried in the middle amongst clothes etc then I guess all will be good.

As for film, DON'T put it in the HOLD .....the hold luggage undergoes a deeper X Ray scan than your hand baggage and as such can fog film ...doesn't mean it will but best to carry through security in person.

I've been stopped before for a physical search of camera kit but I think it was the old Weston lightmeter that they were concerned about as they had no idea what it was! lol

Thanks Asha, I will just take everything in my hand luggage, would you recommend I take the spool out the camera as I only have about 10 shots left of a 36 exposure roll?

Nah, leave it in and get some candids of airport security as you pass through :p ( no responsibility taken for possible ( probable!) consequences:D)

Have you a small back pack Carol...usually my backpack is about 17lbs also with bits and bobs...it's always gone through the hand luggage scanner without any problems but my wife usually gets stopped for not putting all her make up in special bags or something is over 100cc by about 1cc

In the Vista 400 thread I wrote:

OK, I've ordered 20 rolls of the 24, the minimum I can get away with (36-shot was out of stock). If it arrives in time and I'm coming I'll bring some to Arundel and see if anyone wants it. If not, I guess I'll be shooting it! Cost is £44.60 according to Paypal, so £2.20 or so a roll.

Text today says DHL will deliver (assuming I'm in and can get to the front door in time), so should I plan on bringing some down for a share out?

Quick update thanks for all your advice, in airport all ok just had to decant and repack camera gear. As for the rest of the thread I think I had better depart before I get shot at! Duck

If anyone has a spare 62mm lens cap that they want a quid for then please being it along......i've lost mine from my siggy lens down a drain cover this morning.

The silence on the subject suggests I should only bring a couple of rolls "for personal use, ossifer", but happy to bring more if folk find £2.20 per 24-shot roll a reasonable price....

That's surprising, I often fly with my small camera bag in my wheelie bag and have never been asked to take it out for anyone.

Anyway, for Arundel I shall mainly be taking my Canon P and a few rolls of Tri-X, though it's currently got a roll of Vista 200 that I thought I'd use to see how it handled colour and haven't actually used yet. I may also take an MF folder but like Nick, I shall be travelling light this time.

I also would like to take this opportunity to bagsie any Hasselblad goodies in the camera shop.

Yeah, still haven't decided whether to take the 500 too.

As much as I want to be there, I will see how I feel tomorrow morning...my other half was quite ill and last few nights were tough.so if I manage to wake up early tomorrow I will pack and go for the train ;)
I have only portra indoors ...are there any shops in Arundel where I could get any other 120 film ?

I'm not sure what's available in Arundel, I think Arundel Photographica sell film but couldn't be sure, you could always give them a ring.

What film are you after? I can stick an extra couple of rolls in my bag.

It's been a while since I've been to Arundel photographica, so I couldn't say for sure if they sell film. Best to rely on other sources on the chance that they don't.

Apparently if all the equipment is together their scanners have a hard time scanning it. Had to take all the lenses and cameras out and put them in a tray, the guy was very nice about it and it was no real hassle.

I couldn't see any film in the pics on their website, but there's so much other stuff, they must surely sell it!

Any locals know if there is somewhere cheap to park all day?

Mill Road was mentioned earlier as having free parking at the side of the road, the junction is opposite the road we need to get to Grounds so that's where I'll be pointing my t***-nav.

You must have taken more kit than me, the most I've carried is a couple of bodies and lenses and a folder. :)

So from the station it looks like turn left, walk straight towards town and over the river, look for Grounds?

No plan, therefore nothing can go wrong ;)

But there's a river, a castle, a brewery shop, a photographic Aladdin's cave, Arundel Wetland Centre for the twitchers among us, plus the normal street photography opportunities which I hope will be a good source for this months POTY shot.

I've just PM'd my mobile number to everybody that's shown an interest in coming tomorrow, if you haven't been pm'd by me and you want to come along just pm me and I'll send you my contact details.

Leaving shortly and traffic-permitting I'll be there on time. Which is unusual for me. :)
