Damn Doctors should be better though, all this new research etc.
Exactly!
how many years at uni? all the medical advances?
And no time to spend with the patiences to practice what they have (if anything ;) ) learned!

GPs have the time.
They lack the inclination.

Not if you listen to them bitching on the radio!

I don't doubt that either!

Aye, because god forbid they should hold surgery time more than 5 hours a day 4 days a week for their (average) 68,000 a year. ;)

There are times when my work involves explaining to patients that everyone is unique, and that because a particular treatment that works for one person does not necessarily mean that it will work for them.

Perhaps diagnosing what is wrong in the first place might help with the treatment ;)

8/10 mins per patient isn't a lot of time to go into a problem in reality, and if they take longer they have a waiting room
full of fed up people who have been sitting around waiting way past their allotted time.
When was the last time you were actually seen on time for an appointment ?

I had to have a medical for a running event I was doing. The NHS don't cover frivolities like that so it was £35. When I walked in my (excellent) doctor said "this is all a bit of a waste of time isn't it?"

I asked him why and he told me that basically the things that kill most runners aren't predictable so there's little point in his even examining me. He did a couple of tests and then started asking how much training I'd been doing. "Why?" Oh, my wife's doing her first half next month and I wondered if she'd been doing enough training......

I paid him, he signed the form, everybody was happy.

I don't think I have ever been cured for anything by my doctor in all the years I've been going to see him. The only times I've been sorted out is by asking to be referred to a specialist. I can usually self diagnose the problem, the only thing is I can't write a prescription.

Many years ago I had just been promoted to a staff position which meant full pay for 6 months if I was off work for medical reasons.
Having had a bad leg - not bending or straightening for 30 years and reading about knee replacement surgery I decided to see the doctor for advice.
With a look at my notes and no physical examination he stated that my knee problem was "purely psychological".

I asked permission to ask him one question to which he agreed. I then rolled up my trouser leg to reveal my multiple operation scars (10" above patella to 3" below) and asked "What were they looking for? My f3cking brain?" Needless to say I did not return.

Judging by the typical threads in OOF some of our members are more unique than others ;)

There's no such thing as "more unique".
Something is either unique or it isn't. ;)

I'm pretty lucky I've been blessed with good work from my GP over the last couple of years. I did swap though as the last lot were not much use. You can see the crapness from when they start their training. I think the good doctors have had good nurses at the start of their careers
