I suffer with aches and pains in my neck and shoulders - and I avoid going to the doctor like the plague!

I wondered if anyone has had any experience of copper bracelets etc. I have come across a copper curb chain which I thought I might try, but not sure whether the copper/arthritis claims are a lot of hooha?

Thanks,
Al

You will hear on this forum that it wont work cant work etc no medical proof blah blah. All i can say is on my own experience mine works for me.

I have a joint problem in my right hand but since ive been wearing my copper band its not been half the problem it used to be.

Now i know this may be psychosomatic but if it works it works and im happy to say that even if it is all in my head as long as its working the band stays on.

I don't care if it's all in the mind - I think I'll give it a go :)

Thanks,
Al

Precisely this. I'm not one for homeopathy, herbal remedies, magnets, copper and everything else but the last thing i'd want to do is ruin a placebo effect (if that is all it is) for someone it's working for. It's a sad person that does try and take that away from someone!

Try it. Copper is harmless, so there's no risk and everything to gain. The worst outcome is that it won't work. Some people believe that they get relief, so who cares whether it's psychosomatic or not?

Try it. If it works for you then good. If it doesn't then all you have lost is the price of the chain. Just keep it clean so you don't get green stains where the copper oxidises.

Are the pains muscular?

My mum swore by her copper bracelet to relieve her arthritis pain.

My gran has terrible arthritis in every joint in both hands, apart from her ring finger on her right hand where she wore her gold wedding ring, the knuckle is the only joint that is still a normal size and not enflamed and the first joint isn't as bad as any of the others

It might not be proven by science, but anecdotal evidence cannot be ignored

If there is any merit to it whatsoever I would expect it to depend on the type of arthritis.

My dad has been suffering from arthritis for as long as I can remember and has tried the copper bracelet and it did not do anything.

He has tried a lot of different thing but nothing has worked.

Has he tried changing his diet completely? Paleo for arthritis

Mt skin doesn't like copper, so I take a copper supplement. I have crappy arthritis in my wrists which has improved since starting the supplements. Is it all in my head? I don't care if it is. I have very little discomfort now...good enough for me.

Just remember to take it off in the shower or you could start to go green ;p

I concur with what others say, there is no reason for it to work, but my uncle swears by his.

On a side note.. its not just copper that can't be proved

When I got athritis I asked the doctor if it will get worse in winter or damp.. This is what he said for me.. almost word for word..

There is no medical evidence that athritis is effected by adverse weather or damp.. No evidence or proof or logic to it.. He continued.. However I ahve been a doctor long enough to know that it does..

I like your doctor.

I can tell the the temperture is dropping as both my wrists start aching like crazy. I have to wear wrist supports and warmers during winter just to function.
I dont know why it does, but it just does!

Are the pains muscular?

No, I don't think so. Very stiff neck, shoulders and back. Crunching noise when moving head from side to side. Can't turn my head very far to the right or left, or up and down without discomfort. If I try hard to move my head it does ease things a bit eventually. Also, sometimes combined with a sickly headache. Whatr do you reckon Doc? ;)

Go ask your doc. I can't understand people who don't go to the doctor when there in pain. Its there job- there not gonna handcuff you to the chair and then decide you're better off being put to sleep. What's there to be scared of?

Not scared of going to the doctor. However, I think the waiting room is probably the most germ infested place anyone can go to :) I think most doctors these days must also get commission for every pill they dish out. I'm keeping my body clear of any form of drug as long as I possibly can. If I have to suffer a bit of discomfort in the meantime so be it.

Im not trying to have a go, just worry when i hear stuff like this- say if it was something serious, like the 'c word' & could have been fixed if detected early enough.
My dads a keen gardener and always use to comment on how nice the flowers use to smell. He hasn't been able to smell anything for the last few years now and it worries me. Hopefully your pain doesn't cause others close to you the same worrying feeling.
On topic though he uses a magnetic strap thing and swears by it ;@) not that long ago he use to darn his broken socks, so must be impressed cause it wasn't cheap.

I do visit my doctor...as a type 1 diabetic since the age of seven a doctor holds no fear for me. I do take medication for arthritis, and had been taking it for a couple of years before starting copper supplements. After beginning the supplements and kepping one them for a few weeks?....relief. Whatever the reason it works for me.

I take your points.

Book a session with a physio - they will give you exercises to improve it.

As there are over 100 forms of arthritis without blood tests and xrays my diagnosis would be bloaty head syndrome. Do you find it hard to walk through door frames without coating your head in vasaline if so its defo bloaty head :D

Try the copper its not going to make it any worse at all i swear by mine

I don't understand this at all, change your doctor if you feel that way about it. I've had psoriatic arthritis for 5 years now, nothing like bracelets helped at all, nor does the cold weather affect me, I'm in constant pain, only relieved by the help of medicines. First I was put on methotrexate, a pretty heavy drug, did a course for a year and felt a lot better and came of it. Now I'm sore again I'm starting a course of sulfasalazine next week. Personally id see a doctor, it's only going to get worse as you get older so why bother if you may have to take a few pills, you will only regret it in the future.

And as my specialist said yesterday, they are striving for medical perfection when it comes to arthritis with medicines, not just to make you feel better for a few weeks or months.

It depends if you're prepared to make lifestyle changes and research or not. It would be useful to get a diagnosis first as Kipax mentioned, but it's still an inflammatory condition and the inflammation needs dealing with. The key reasons for that will be environmental toxins and diet causing problems.

The paleo diet or GAPS diet address these issues better than anything else I've encountered in over a decade of research and experience because they are based on our body's biochemistry rather than fads.

I'm happy to provide info and suggestions if you're open.

at least it's not one of those magnetic bands tht people at craft fairs try to sell, claiming it improves blood flow due to iron in the blood..

I love to get all scientific with them...:love:

The blogs and podcasts of Dr. Steven Novella are great for debunking that kind of crap.

Thanks for all input. I think we can end this now as I have all the info I need.

Thanks very much,
Al

I can totally concur with that. My knee is better at predicting the weather than the people on the TV.

I think most inanimate objects are better at predicting the weather than the people on the TV :naughty:

I am a very down to earth type. I don`t do bullshat, faddy hippy medicines nor do I believe in witchcraft or any other type of [PLEASE DON'T TRY TO BYPASS THE SWEAR FILTER].

If you had asked 10 years ago, I would have said it was a pile of crap. However, I bought a magnetised copper bracelet a long time ago. It works for me, whether that is physically or pyschologically, I really don`t know.

But I don`t ever take it off now and will certainly not leave the house without it. So, for me, it works. What would it cost to try one?...Peanuts.

My Nan was the same, only finger which was fine was her ring finger.

Also people who live in the mountains near my parents don't seem to suffer from it, and their tap water comes out the mountains behind, which are full of gold mines...

Don't they improve fuel economy as well? ;)
