Lovely river trip in Durham, great sky's, unique angles on the cathedral, fantastic place to set my tripod up, everything just perfect, and I got what should have been some of my best shots ever.

Unloaded completed roll of 120 at home, and wondered why the backing paper was different to the last roll I developed, but proceeded with the first step anyway. Half way through the 5 minutes in the developer, I had the horrible realisation that I'd loaded the roll, on the boat, the wrong way around, so had been trying to expose the backing paper! I even remember loading it and thinking something was odd!

b****r :(

b****r indeed. I did that once I'd managed to convince a few riding buddies to pose with their bikes too...

b****r indeed! Best way to look at it is a test run... go and do the same thing another day with the film in the right way round!

We're all capable if this kind of thing ;-)

Yes, learning exercise it has to be :). Still hurts though because I just know some of my best film shots ever could have been on there :(

I did the same thing with a Bronica GS-1, loaded the back with film and then spent all day shooting 10 shots only to find I'd got it backards.... very frustrating.

Maybe a tip if you haven't thought of it:- When I've used a film on my Etrs or Rb67, I immediately switch the empty spool over to the receiving part.

Ah yes Brian, I do do that, but that wasn't the problem! I put the new roll in back to front, i.e. with the top of the roll at the bottom. That meant it was running off the roll with the backing paper facing the shutter. Because of that it all felt right as I was using it; winding on correctly etc :(

I'd have expected it to be impossible, with different lugs on the top and bottom of the spool, but I can guarantee it's not!!!

Happens to the best of us
