As I now shoot so much MF I decided to sell my Voigtlander Bessamatic CS, popped on the Color Skopar 50mm f2.8 and ran a film through it (Kodak Portra).
Anyway they turned out really well and I don't want to sell it :bang:

So, I need to sell something so I can afford the lens I want. Do I still sell the Bessamatic or the Nikon F3?

Heres the pics.

Tough call Andy....keep saving...

Even though I am a confirmed Nikon fan I'd sell the F3, the ugliest of the F series IMHO

Depends what lens your after.

But I agree with Nick sell the F3, there are loads about so easy to pick up if you another.

I assume the F3 is worth more though? So it'll get you closer to the lens than the Bessamatic. That said, even if you pick up a replacement it'll never be the same one... (sorry, I said it :D).

What lens, out of interest?

Also some pleasant shots, although on my screen the colour balance is a bit out - is that just the rendering with the Skopar?

Ugly ??

that's like saying the entire F series is ugly..:S

anyway, there are loads of F3's and Bessamatics are pretty sweet..

:)

Yep, if my house was burning down and I had to leave one of the F series behind I'd leave the F3. Don't get me wrong it's a great camera I just don't think it has the appeal of the others.

Actually the Bessamatic with 2 lenses, a load of filters, a flash and a tripod is worth quite a lot more than the F3 as its the CS version which was the latest one and a lot more sophisticated.
I'm actually after a Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 as I have a large gap between 18-135mm and 300mm that needs filling and the 70-200mm f2.8 is waaaaay too expensive. I'm probably going to go with the older push/pull version as Ffordes have one for £399 and I shall be only 40 miles from them in a week or so.

FC2, its probably the Skopar rendering as I have done virtually nothing to these but cleaned up the scans and as usual I struggle with colour as I'm red/green colour blind.

Don't forget the 180/2.8 -- small and really nice lens. ;)

It was considered but I could do with the convenience of a zoom.

Anyway, I've decided that the F3 will have to go. It has the HP viewfinder and the original one as well so hopefully I can get near to the money I would get for the Bessamatic.

Never an easy decision. I'd sell the one that's going to be easiest to replace if I found myself in the same situation, but it's a personal call.

FWIW, I still have my F2 which I bought in the late 70s. It's my favourite camera, and I have a soft spot for the F too. Never really liked the F3 or F4, and the F5 and F6 are very different cameras.

Ditch the F3 - big and bulky :D

Also some pleasant shots, although on my screen the colour balance is a bit out - is that just the rendering with the Skopar?

That's part of the charm imo. A large part if I am honest, it distances film from the purely digital by making emulsion and filter choices part of the picture process rather than an afterthought.

Big and bulky eh! its about half the size and weight of the Bessamatic

I think that I will ditch the F3 especially as I have just remembered I have the SB-12 flash that goes with it.

... including all the extras?

If you haven't already made the decision (even though it looks like you have), I would sell the one I use least, or feel the least emotional attachment to. if the money is similar.

Of course you'd be able to use the new lens on the F3 (I'm guessing, as long as it isn't a G version)...

Though it's hardly irreplaceable (even though I love mine).

if it was me i would keep saving. I keep selling things then regretting it :'(

35mm SLR prices seem to be to on the rise a little, compared to two years ago . It might be a sensible time to ditch the F3, as I can't see there ever being a massive demand for them in the future, as 35mm film gradually gets whittled down to just a couple of brands.

Of course, by that logic, the Voigtländer is doomed too . I'll just shut up now  ....
