I really don't think there is or ever was much in it. It is all about the software you use and how you use it. 12MP will however severely limit printing and cropping ability making it mostly suitable for web output. 16-18MP is the point where you start getting a little bit more flexibility.... not great but you get by

I certainly think this is the silliest of notions but I find myself drawn to the EOS 5D Mk1.

Watching the news this week, I think the silliness of this notion has been overshadowed somewhat.

I’m looking to get rid of my x100v. I love it but have told myself it’s ok because I still have my x10. Running at 6MP. It is funny how we are so enamoured with the specs, yet here we are on the forum, uploading 500kb 1024px photos! I like modern camera technology but it has also allowed us to become lazy and take shortcuts

A large percentage of people need little more than 1MP for showing on screens. More pixels just allow us more flexibility in how we use our files.

No sir. I might just be over this impulse 'cos I know that's what it is/was.
That's not to say I'm not enjoying the discussion.
By way of distraction I spent some time today handling Oly OM cameras and thinking that I really don't need two OM1, two OM2 an OM3 and an OM4 any longer. Nor quite so many Soviet rangefinders. Oh glory....I sense a realignment of priorities coming on.

I mainly shoot Fuji……don’t ask, but I’ve recently been drawn to a Nikon D700 (12MP sensor) body, so I’ve ordered one from that auction site.
Should arrive next week.

I think my first camera had VGA resolution - 480 x 320 or similar. At the time you could kind of recognise people in the picture if you squinted a bit, and having seen some of those recently, nothing has changed. I'm glad that I could take those pictures at the time, but really wish I'd had something less crappy. Now, using such a thing when better cameras are available would be inexcusable really.
