In the Spring/Summer 2013 Argos catalogue, on page 681, item number 11, catalogue number 559/7989, Vivitar X426 10MP compact camera, the catalogue states that it accepts SD card and use 2x AA battery, and also marked it as having no video option. It even goes far to offer a SanDisk Ultra 4GB SD card at half price if bought with the camera.

Lord Sugar would have a field day firing anyone involved in the catalogue, the editor or the researcher or the writer, anyone who work on the catalogue, the clowns gave misinformation about the item, I bought it for my kid's birthday, and bought the SD card at half price to go with it.

My kid open it, I helped him to open the camea, found two problems...

It do not take AA batteries, it actually takes 2x AAA batteries!!!

And to make things worst, it do not take SD card, it is actaully MicroSD card!!!

i've wrote to Argos head office telling them of their misinformation, I've had to go back to the shop to exchange the SD card for MicroSD card.

Oh by the way, the camera can do video at 720p yet it's not mentioned in the catalogue!

Makes you wonder what other typos and incorrect details they have in that big book!

It is a big book.... and I've found them very helpful when dealing with mistakes like this.

Oh goodie!! But if they made the effort to correct the mistake on their website, couldn't they bothered to have some kind of message on their system so when customers buy at tills, the till computers point out the details, so staff could explain that camera takes MicroSD not SD, and therefore staff ask if customer wants to change the card for correct one?!

Mistakes happen. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

That's okay for you, you didn't drive 10 miles back to the Argos store, the next day, in a car that got coolant leak, after your own kid feels let down by fact that the camera can't be used until the wrong card had been replaced with the correct card. I do mind too much having to do that.

Yes, mistakes happens, but customers have to sort out the mess.

What exactly do you want them to do for you?

Whilst having a degree of sympathy for you, having had experiences of kids being disappointed with a present, the lesson I quickly learnt with anything that needed electric or batteries etc, was to check it before giving it as a present to make sure it actually worked. Same applies to many things how often have you bought some DIY furniture to only find pieces missing after you have it all over the lounge floor ?

Have to agree anything to do with the kids is tested before they get them, if only so I know what they do.

Nothing more embarrassing than a kid saying dad what does this button do.

Or in the OP's case dad why didn't you check it before you gave it to them (most likely said by mum):)

Oh, looking for a cheap waterproof point and shoot to take to Cuba next month, this may be a good one to grab.

I am a bit cynical about the term "waterproof" being applied to the simple p&z cameras.

Currently researching such cameras for a sposorship thing for some teenagers going on a month long trip to Borneo and worked through the main contenders (invl Vivitar Fuji Pentax etc). All the reviews show different points about how water damage drop damage sand etc ruins their performance..

We are looking at purchasing 4 Pentax Optio WG1 rugged cameras. (14Mp, 10m waterproof, dustproof, 1.5m Shockproof, LED macrolight, 28-140mm zoom equivslent, 720p video)

Might be worth a look at. For the budget we have we can get 4 of them working on the principle the group will have different projects to work on and document and if there is loss or damage there is a bit of redundancy.

Might be a good choice for a "wet" holiday.

Will have a look at that one as we have several 'wet holiday/trips planned :)

This is the exact waterproof camera I bought for a holiday to Spain so I could film my 4 year old diving under the water for a dive stick. The camera is brilliant but the biggest let downs for me were battery life and screen visibility. The 2 AAA batteries lasted about ½ day if used for about 5 videos and 20 photographs. I could only see the screen if looking under a towel so you can't see what you're filming underwater at the time. Other than that I couldn't fault it.

I assume you mean the Vivitar and not the Pentax? The Pentax has a rechargeable battrry.
