Hello,

I'd appreciate any ideas on whats caused this light leak pattern on my negatives.

Was developed the normal way, I mean it defo looks like some sort of leak through the sprocket holes as thats where the light streaks are aligned to.

Nah I used the stop bath but I didn't agitate the film enough I think, you are correct in guessing that so I;m guessing thats a very good cause. I was distracted by a n00b in the darkroom.

How does that lack of agitation explain the pattern though? Not what I would expect

The chemicals become used when in contact with the film if not agitated - therefore they work slower so giving lighter areas which print darker - the sprocket holes use up less of the active ingredients so therefore chemicals below the sprocket holes are slightly more active - so you get this pattern as the chemicals slowly move down the film.

That does seem plausible and fits the evidence,

I was reliably informed that no agitation would improve contrast? Clearly thats wrong then

I think it does if you leave it to stand for a lot longer - that could be BS though as I'm not that far in, I still do what the manual says lol

A light leak would give the opposite effect to what you're seeing there - lighter streaks rather than dark ones. That looks like classic under- agitation. I'd always opt for inversion agitation every time - or get a Jobo processor. :D

I've always been under the impression that increased agitation had no effect on developing time but increased contrast.

you get sprocket hole streaks if you over agitate too!! So its best to agitate once every minute, by inverting the tank slowly (10 seconds)
