Yes
So, several months ago (6 to be precise) I went to a mandatory meeting outside of work which was a 40 mile round trip.
3 months ago I drove to andover which is an 80 mile round trip on a work-related task.

It has taken 6 months (and counting) to get the expenses form signed, claiming my money back.

The manager of my store is effing useless.
I don't really have time now to rant in detail, but put it like this. I'm sick and tired of my pay discrepencies (sp?). Took 2 months to action my pay rise, I'm missing 9 hours of overtime from the christmas period, and waiting for expenses to be paid from september.

Beyond a joke now.

One good thing about the introduction of JPA to the Armed Forces is that travel (and other) expenses are paid in about three days...you have to keep reciepts for three years for audit purposes, though usually if your claim is slected for audit it happens within a month or two...

my work are also horendous at re-embursing expenses, i made that mistake once. towards the end of last year they repeatedly put my on driving duties when away but didnt give me a company credit card...... suprisingly i left the hire cars empty when i returned them so they got a massive bill. why should i be out of pocket for months, £100 worth of fuel might not be much money to them but it would play havoc to my finances!

next time ask for monies upfront

One for HR me thinks, or speak to your manager's manager!! Also make it perfectly clear that you will be doing nothing but apart from your basic duties until you are duely paid - if they rely on you for any unpaid overtime, they'll soon cough up!

Until they audit you to death, and people stop bothering. Being a band we spend a lot of time on the road, and I'm gussing it's the same for you media ops chaps. I'm on a garisson where nobody really goes anywhere or claims expenses, so the percentage that gets auditted on this camp invariably comes from our mob! And thanks to the incompetence of a staff member in our GAO, I'm now having expenses recovered from an audit that according to the system was never completed...that I completed last October! My own fualt for losing my paper trail, but what an arse anyway!

My manager told me it's my fault.
His words:

"The area manager is in on thursday. We're all in the same boat. Besides, I asked YOU to write down your bank details so it's your fault because you haven't done that."

This is a useless manager that only just found my expenses form in the past couple of days in the bottom of his bag, soggy and crumpled.
No scoffing chance I'm writing down my account number, sort number, and various other sensitive info for him to lose in the bottom of his waste-of-space bag.

Irrelevant anyway, because they have my bloody bank details so they shouldn't need me to write them again!
I'm going in tomorrow after college to get the number for personnel and talk to my manager.

I said to him, "With all due respect, I don't want to write my bank details down and then have them sat crumpled up in your bag for god knows how long. And it doesn't take 5 months to get a form signed. I've had it signed and paid in within the month before you were manager during my time at Jessops. At the end of the day I've expended money by doing something that the company has asked me to do and they should have reimbursed me long ago which is something you entrust in your manager to do. I shouldn't need to write down my bank details either because the company has them."

I then tried ringing me but I was in the cinema, so I rejected the call. No doubt it was to have a go at me and to say "That was very disrespectful, I do not expect to have you talk to me in that way."
In which I'd have replied, "I'll tell you what's more disrespectful - not being bothered to sort out someone's wages which leaves them in the lurch for the month ahead."

I'm going to write a big list of things he does that are not only against company policy but some of them are actually illegal. I'll check with my other colleagues that it's all correct from their understanding, and then I'll keep it for a rainy day.

Ask him to put in writing the reasons you have not been paid what you are owed - this will make him think and he may just be a little more responsive to you in future. (You still need to get everythin he says in writing)

When you speak to HR, ask them for a copy of your employment contract and a Job Description, along with any employee handbook there may be. When they ask why you want these things, feel free to tell them - but basically it means they have asked you what's wrong rather than you calling them to complain.

I had a similar thing where I was promised a promotion every 3 months which never happened. I got on to HR, asked for my JD, contract etc - 2 weeks later promotion in place. Even though you ask for things to be confidential, it will get things done.

Oh I feel your pain...My line-manager's post was gapped in 2007, meaning that no-one was able to authorise my Leave Dates, which resulted in a complete backlog. Even the Administrator couldn't get it unlocked to clear the requests and submit new ones...all she ever got from the 'Help Desk' was to let the Unit Administrator deal with it - she was the Unit Administrator...

All done now, though I magically 'gained' 35 days Annual Leave - whch was nice...:D

The system's good - it's just half the people running it are dim-witted poltroons...
