Yes
I just felt the need to scream as I don't seem to be able to recover much of my lost data - about 100 NEF Images out of about 10000!!!!!

Biggest lesson in life learnt, I MUST backup! I am so mad at myself!

cheapest quote I got for sending it away is £400! I just don't have that kind of money i can spare right now!

Been using Recuva and it's done all I think it can :(

GUTTED and ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH again!

Em

p.s thanks to those for the suggestions of what to try anyways xx

:(

Gutted for you. Been there, done that...Lost about 1/3 of all the digital pictures I had ever taken.
Now backup to an external disk, backup on my NAS and a backup archived at my parents place (incase of fire)...

What is NAS? I hear a lot of people talk about it?

I've now got another 2TB drive and i'll backup both my 1tb's to it, once I get sorted! I used to back everything up to DVD, but then just stopped and got Lazy! DVD backup seems to old hack now!? I now have none of my portfolio other that whats on my old Flickr account, Guess I need to get out shooting more now!

I don't think i've ever felt so angry at myself!

Network Attached Storage
Basically a networked ext hard drive, You can back up various devices to the same drive, and with some can access remotely...

i back up each evening to an external disk

use Karen Replicator [ suggested by somebody here].......excellent

just select all the folders you want updated
and it 'mirrors' them, deleting folders/files you have deleted [if you want to]

thanks i'll give it a try - i'm going to spend the weekend sorting out what I can!

I know the feeling, been there too. I have started keeping images in my free webspace which is provided by my ISP. In addition to keeping it safe, you can access your images away from home if need be. The FTP upload is not the quickest though.

also about twice a year i copy individual folders [docs, pictures etc] onto individaul DVDs and mail to brother for safe keeping

with Karens Replicator..............

i initialy said copy these folders to 'destination E: ''
it copied ONLY the files in each folder to the external HDD and so i had 15,000 or so files in alpha numeric order............:bonk:

So - in Source it's easy to ''Browse to.......'' [say C:\user\user\documents]
in ''Destination'' you have to type ''E:\user\user\documents
and select ''copy sub-folders''

 all the IT gurus are now going :bang::bang::bang:

hope you can recover some...........good luck

Look on the bright side, you now have motivation to work out a good backup strategy...

:(
I still get angry at myself thinking back to some of what I lost..

Sam

Do you still have any of these backups lying around? If so, will (some of?) your older work still be on them?

I do, but probably only talking 15-20 Shoots, there's about 50-60 not on there! If not more! :*(
