Are you satisfied with your camera?

Are you the type that wishes you bought a different model / brand? Do you change camera all the time?

I ask as a friend of mine who is on a tog course has had about 6 DSLR's since the course begun!! Me, ive had a 50D, a 550D and now a D90 in the space of 2 years.

Finally went with Nikon as i found it handles better, nice ergonomics and overall a very balanced DSLR

Plus, after selling some photography bits and bobs i managed to get the D90 and a 50mm for around £345 (After selling some bits and bobs)

Bought the D90 off of a guy from these forums

I think there will always be an "itch" to want bigger and better but you need to be realistic and satisfy yourself with what you have.

Me personally I have had a d40, d80 and now a d700 and couldn't be happier :). Will always want more lenses though even if I don't need them lol.

honestly, i couldn't be more satisfied. My d700 is just an incredible camera - intuitive yet full of scooe, feels great and gives fantastic results. I've been drooling over the d4 previews, but there's no way realistically i'd be buying that. I think the d700 will last me a fair while yet! :)
 
I'm happy with my 500D and have had it a year. Looking forward to upgrading to a mid sized D7 or it's successor though. When this happens I will flog the 500D. I travel light so one camera is enough.
 
Still happy with my 1D MKIIn and 20D that I've owned for years, would like a lot more shiny new lenses like the 500mm f4 though
 
I am now. When I traded my Oly E620 in for the Canon 550D, I thought for a couple of months I'd made a huge mistake. I switched because I changed to shooting more under difficult lighting and the E620 simply couldn't make the grade at over ISO400.
I still miss the lenses, though. And the flip-out screen.
At the time, I considered the D3100 but the 550D just edged it on 'feel' for me. Had I another couple of hundred to spend, I think I'd have gone with the 60D and still hanker after one.
 
Ive had a 20D for 8 years - I do have an itch to upgrade it to the 7D but i dont have the money
 
Satisfied with my lenses? - Very! Had some of them 23 years.

Satisfied with my dSLR body? - So far so good (only had it 3 weeks!)
 
Since discovering digital photography, having used film for years, I have a 550D and a very recently acquired 5DMkII. Those two will do me for a good few years. I am very happy with the 550D but as I photograph mainly landscapes, and having seen the superb landscapes which can be produced on FF, the MkII got the better of my wallet.
 
I am not one for buying something and only using it for a very short time. If i'm buying something, it's going to stay with me for a good few years (usually!).

I've had the following:
- 300D in 2004
- 40D in 2009
- 5dmk2 in 2011

My aim has always been to go full frame, so my other kit i've purchased has been geared towards that. When the mk2 got to a cheap enough price i went for it.

I don't know why people constantly change their kit.

The D3 wil still do everything it has done for the last 3 or 4 years (when did they come out? I was straight in there with the first one in consumer hands! I got mine before The Telegraph got theirs and Bob Bodman was not a happy man!) Anyway, it is a great piece of kit that exceeds most editorial uses as it is. I have thought about replacin git with a D4, just one and keep the other D3, but then I think, "will I earn any more money with the D4?" The answer is no. So I shall keep the couple of D3 bodies I have for another couple of years and see how things turn out.

I like the stats for the D4, but it isn't like the D3 doesn't turn out good pictures and it would have the same lenses stuck on the front. So yes, I am more than happy with my SLR camera BUT, I am thinking of changing the compact,or at least keeping the G12 and getting the Nikon P7100 with live AF in video mode. I would need a diving housing for it too though. I have the housing for the G12, it is brilliant at what it is used for, but I do like the P7100 and the wide angle additional lens for it.
 
Still liking my 500D, particularly gripped - all in all a great beginner camera. Wish it had X-Type Outer Focus points and built in speedlight transmitter. 60D is the logical next step but the 7D autofocus system looks like winning that battle.
 
I had a 500d for the first year, then while looking for a 70-200L (that I still don't have) I bought a 7d that I love. I got it from here and it was as new.

I may end up going to the 5d mk2 sucsessor but that'll be quite a while from now, if they ever release it. Mainly to get better low light sensitivity.

I mainly upgrade things because I have quite a bit of spare time and an internet connection.
 
M6 and lenses- yes.
NEX 5n- yes.
7d and the tonne of guff that goes with it- no. It's too heavy and the noise handling at higher ISO levels is not great. Also the only thing I really use it for now is birding and I need a lens that costs way more than I have to spend! Such is life...
 
I love my D90, but I know by the end of the year I will be looking at a D700, I just love the look of full frame pics and the high ISO is amazing. I am just hoping that the new D800 arrives in February, then the price if the D700 will drop nicely by the end of the year.
 
Very happy with my 5Dc. Don't shoot sports and though the ISO could be marginally better, tbh all it's done is teach me to expose properly, and the shots I've missed from it being too dark haven't been ones which would have been great shots anyway.

I won't likely be upgrading the body for a good long time, until the 1DS3 starts pushing into affordable territory as that opens up the 85l as a much more viable option and gives me bigger print sizes.

In terms of lenses, sure, I'll always find myself wanting one more but the 135L will be my last purchase on that front for a good while as my lens collection will be more or less complete for my shooting purposes at that point.
 
My current 7D seems to do all I ask of it, perhaps a swivel screen would be useful for video shooting and low down shots, so the answer is yes I suppose.

The hits on new bodies are ridiculous.
 
Originally bought a 40D after doing a lot of researach and reading of reviews and have been very happy with it. When the means for an upgrade were available, I knew I wanted to go full frame, as most of my photography has been with 35mm film. That led me to the 5DII, and I've been very happy with that. I still have both cameras, and have no inkling to change; the forthcoming 1DX sounds nice, but I couldn't justify the cost for the sort of photography I do. I may look at the 5DIII if/when it is released, but it will need to be considerably better than the 5DII or pitched at a sensible price level for me to seriously consider purchasing one.

Recently upgraded to 5D after owning 40D for just under two years, my first DSLR. Very happy with it and definitely prefer full frame. Always tempted by the mark II though.
 
Ian the past eight years I've had numerous nikons.


A d50, d40, d50 again then a d90, now have a lovely d3 but still love picking up my first d50! It's lovely!!

As others have said, I'm now spending my money on good quality glass. Have always been a sigma glass fan, but can't help but replace it with Nikon lenses..... Argh dreams. Argh..... 300 f2.8 :)

Only slight doubt was that the D7000 came out about the time I got my D90 - but it was £400 more and that was just a bit too much at the time (plus since then I've been able to buy a s/h SB600 and a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 for not much more than that).

I love my D90 and it has been perfect - but I'm also looking in the direction of a D700 at some stage... though I made the mistake of trying a 24-70 f2.8 on my D90 on Thurs and it was so lovely I want one now (and it would be a perfect lens if/when I did get a D700!)

Eventually the answer is indeed yes.

I have had 3 bodies in 3/4 years and now have the one I shall keep for a good deal of time. The journey began with a Nikon D40 which was upgraded to a Nikon D5000. This was less of an upgrade and more of a side step. It was only done as I did not pay for the D5000. On both bodies when I got to a decent level of understanding left me frustrated digging through menus for buttons that are present on more superior models. Couple that with poor high ISO and lack of in body motor and I had a lusting for a D90. Instead I opted for a D7000 and it is perfect for all my needs.

I have a good selection of lenses now and the only things I shall be adding are filters in the near future. Perhaps in time I shall opt for better glass but have no desire to improve on the body or go full frame... at least not just now.


I can honestly see me keeping this camera for years, unless it is stolen upon travels.

I came from a P&S to DSLR, but before i went to the dslr i looked Canon & Nikon, but in the end i went for Canon because of the design, at first i choose the 550D because of the good reviews it had online, but the camera was a little small for my hands, i could have got the battery grip that would slove this problem. But it looked stange to me IMO on a small dslr camera So i went for the New 60D in 2010 what i like about this camera is the Articulated screen.

As i got to learn more about this camera the more i like it:)

If i did look back and i had more money at the time i would have got the 5D MKII. or waited for the MKIII. but i am happy with what i got now so no need for me to look back anymore.:)

Had a 400D learnt to use that and then bought a 40D off these forums and was very happy, had the opportunity to upgrade at Christmas and ummed and hahed over 5d mark ii and 7D decided that the 7 suited my needs better, don't think i will be upgrading again up to press i love it
 
Im very happy with my cameras The 1d mk4 and 7D are my most current i only ever change if i think the new model has something i think we offer me an advantage in taking pictures. One of the biggest bonuses with the 2 cameras i have mentioned is the are both micro adjustable so you can calibrate the lens to the body, you can also customise the AF performance/ set up to suit the subject, For birds in flight this is a great advantage. Would anything make me change the biggest thing would be an iso jump in quality of about 3 stops then i might. Otherwise im a very happy man :D

I only have a D200, so, no :'( ;)

Considering it's been passed on to me through my bro for virtually nothing, I am. However, the ISO limtations are frustrating me now.

Later in the year, depending on how my job goes, I might be in a position to upgrade (or I'm ditching everything and hopping around the globe) so wonder if I should skip the D300 and look for a S/H D700

Well, my D7000 is my first ever SLR and I only got it in October so yes, I'm very happy with it.

I'm another one who tends to use things for several years, unless it breaks! My Fuji bridge camera was used for 4 and a half years before I got the D7000 so I'm fully expecting it to last me a few years.

I have no desire, or need, to go full frame. But this would change if I won the lottery of course!
 
Yes and no. The D700 is truly awesome, a real luxury item for me as a hobbyist, but even as a hobbyist I'm allowed to appreciate the build quality, ergonomic controls and sense of purpose. I do, however, only really shoot everyday with a 50 prime, and the holy grail for me would still be an M, because I still value the art of discreet, quiet shooting. However, Leica M's are somewhat of a crap-shoot on the secondhand market, which is the reason I bailed out at the last moment before settling with the D700.

The Fuji X-Pro looks to be a very close match to my ideal camera ethos; more a contax G than a Leica M, but my appreciation of the M has nothing to do with branding. I'll be watching the early reports with interest, especially the performance of the 50 equivalent prime.
 
Yup, I got my 1000D purely to get me into photography, and its doing what I wanted.

Ive spent more on lenses and accessories now than the camera itself, And towards the end of this year I probably will change the body now that Im happy with what Im doing
 
I bought a second hand 450D and Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 in November 2010. I am fairly happy with my body, but I do itch for something with more frames per second and higher ISO at times. I have since added a 55-250mm IS and a PK-Canon converter for some cheap fast glass.
