I was just wondering if it's me or are must people more creative with their photography at night. It's almost 1am on a work night and I'm just getting to bed. It doesn't seem to matter what time I start shooting I always get much more creative as it gets later. Saturday night I was up till 3:45am shooting. :0

Do you find yourself more creative at night?

Yes, and first thing in the morning but i think its something to do with you being fully "wound down" from work mode by that time and returning to more of a clarity state.
Maybe being alone when everyone else is in bed, less distraction?
Better conditions like being cooler, no stray light streaming through windows.
I've been building a 4x5 monorail camera recently, no plans, totally cut and paste, and find myself working on it later on at night. Same with my still life work and film developing, much more relaxed and far nicer to do after a nice drop of medoc or a cup of vanilla chai.
Add to the mix me working til late late every shift (its a chefs life) and no wonder i do stuff so late

I don't think it's a case of being more creative or not I think that the night time offers you more opportunity for long exposures where you can run around doing mad things that are not possible in the day time

But i don't shoot long exposures at night. I think its defiantly more of a state of mind thing

Ditto. Love long exposures, contrast of lighting and shadows, light trails, deep blue skies, stars, the moon and all the other great stuff that comes after dark. I actually quite look forward to winter as it allows me to indulge in this stuff at more sociable hours.

Its more to do with the individuals circadian rhythm and what kind of thinker you are. A persons hard wiring determines this and its couldn't be more obvious than with the wife and myself.
She is an early riser, very academic, has a very good short term memory and excels in mental tasks and mathematics, is tidy and organised, never ever late for anything.
Myself, i struggle early on in the day, have difficulty with mathematics, have a low attention span when it comes to written word but love to write, have more creative bones, can pre visualize most things, have a deeper appreciation for the arts and achieve my best "thinking" later on in the day/night am a bit unorganized when i have "projects" ongoing and don't mind being a bit late now and then.
That makes it look like i only think there are two types of people on this planet and obviously i know this and i know the diversity of humans is infinite but its just pointing out the differences between the two extremes.
I think i read somewhere that people with slight brain trauma were more likely to have a breakthrough due to having to work things out over and over again? Is this right i can't remember

Agree. My wife and me are the same but opposites to you, I could be your wife and you could be my wife (no that isn't a proposition)

Actually its not about long exposures although that is my favorite way to shoot. For me its about creativity. I get very creative later in the night. Like the other op said I think it has something to do with getting your head totally clear of all outside influences .

If I was up shooting at 3:45 am it wouldn't be me that was creating it would be the wife, but not in that way! :D

My girlfriend had a report to do that was going to take her most of the night. Long story short she sat beside me all night and was done with her whole report before I was done shooting. But are we ever really done shooting.. lol

being intoxicated does fill your mind with great ideas but you never seem to get anything actually done well i dont anyway:)
