I see there are a lot who committed, and to December.

Hopefully some of them will be along soon :)

MusicMan - how many people do we need minimum? I know who's ear to go and bend then :D

Hey Lee

Realistically we'd need about 8-10 people for all day sesisons, pluse because there are two models we could accommodate another 4-6 people through the day in shorter sessions.

The costs of the models is in excess of £480 for the day, plus we need to give Daz some money for the use of his equipment and studio hire. I know he has kindly offered the use of this but nonetheless we need to cover his costs and wear and tear of paper/backing/power etc.

So... hope that gives you enough info.

We certainly need to know this before tomorrow evening as I need to book and confirm the models.

I'm up for a day in February (and so are 66% by the looks of it!) but the 15th December is too close to arrange unfortunately :(

Im in..

Hey Jim

Just arrived back in UK in hotel in London, and by the looks of those interested, it seems that this is likely to be a no goer!!

I shall wait until tomorrow evening and make a final decision.

With the current numbers, the costs to those willing to come along would be very expensive and that's not fair. We'll decide tomorrow though, shame if it doesn't go ahead eh!

Especially to say so many people put their name down as willing to commit .... :bang:

Really wanted to try and grab some professional experience whilst I could!

Me too Lee... can still do if those interested are willing to pay a little more?

If you've got fewer numbers why not use 1 model instead and halve the costs?

Like I said earlier, cost isn't really an issue.
I don't mind paying more for more time in the studio.

If i'm honest, having not really done umuch studio work at all before, never mind poses, I was interested in just the experience so - i'm easy in all directions!

Even if there were no model and we were working on still life it could be worked for me :)

Your call!

These are all possibilities guys... decision tomorrow yeah?

Sounds good to me :)

I'll PM you my number incase you can't get hold of me on here .

OK folks, there's not enough people as we thought who were interested... but... and it is a BIG but...

If those who have already registered a commitment to attend for all or part of the day are willing to pay more to cover the costs, then this could still be do-able. Please let me know; for the current numbers, the costs would be around the £80-£100 mark for an all day session, and around the same as previously for the shorter 1 or 2 hour sessions. If people are willing to pay this amount, then fine, we can still go ahead and book this, but again - I need to know.

I appreciate some may not be happy, but to those people I would ask... would you be willing to pay the £480 fees for the models without knowing if you were going to get that back? :)

Please bear with me on this, it's proving much more difficult to get off the ground than first thought. Your support is needed, thanks.

Cheers all.

John

You know my thoughts

I'm still up for it as long as it doesn't go much above the £100 mark.

I'll run it past the people on my photography course and see if they are interested.

What about cross pollinating it on to another forum? The thedvdforums.co.uk has a very active photography subforum and at least one of their members is a member on here. I am happy to run it past their moderators and see if they are happy with the idea as long as you guys are.

Had to go back to page 2 for the hourly costs

Ok i'm still in for the first two hours never done studio work so any time is worthwhile time and the travel time to get there.

Just need to know whether its happening.

Agreed - could do the first few hours - John, just sent you a PM for further info...

Kev

Thanks all for getting back in touch, but I'm afraid the math for this one won't add up this time - which is such a shame.

I will revisit this in January/February to see if we can get a few more people interested.

Disappointed, but not feasible I'm afraid. Sorry.

That's a real shame.

It will be a goodun when it gets off the ground though. Thanks for the time and effort John.

Hey everyone

Thanks for the messages, but honestly, it's no trouble - I wish the event could have taken place too. I will put the same effort into trying to arrange the session for January or February no worries. Just keep an eye on this thread.

I am busy this week - off to Milan on business but this weekend I will make some enquiries re the models and availabilty for Jan/Feb, and will also speak with Daz to see if his studio is available then also.

Cheers all...

Thanks John,

Should be able to give a full day in Jan / Feb though! :)

All the best

Kev

I just did a studio session at Ariane Studios in Tamworth, costs shared between 6 photographers. Day was split into 2 3-hour sessions 10-1 and 2-5, with a different model for each session. We did some high key and fine art nude in the infinity corner in the morning, and in the afternoon we went into the dark area for some low key work using grids and hairlights. Cost worked out at £ 55 per person.

Each person had about 10 minutes on a rotation system. After each person had a go, the model had a rest / change of clothing and we tried something else.

This setup works quite well. More 'togs would reduce costs but you'd get less shooting time, more hanging about and less chance to play with things.

This is what we did:

Hour 1 - high key, with the main lights set to F8, with the background lights at F11
Hour 2 - back lights off giving a dark or grey effect
Hour 3 - model moved forward, fine art nude session
Lunch
Hour 4 - dark area, front with softbox & reflector, single hairlight from behind
Hour 5 - dark area, similar to above but using honeycomb grids
Hour 6 - dark area, similar to above, rear light moved to behind with gel

We had a bit of time left over so went back into the high key area, with the students arranging the lamps and metering to see what we have learnt.

Of the 6 people, 3 of us had done the same session once before, but with different models. The other three, none had set foot in a studio before. Cameras ranged from a Pentax with kit lens to a Canon 5D with some 'L' lenses.

Example from hour 6 -

Whilst we were not shooting, we were given some photoshop tips on how to get the best from the photos, and could chat amongst ourselves to check out each others photos and thing of suggestions. The 10 mins shooting is enough to get into the swing of things and to try out lots of ideas.

Update and FYI

I am very sorry folks, but I won't be willing to pay costs out of my own pocket, make significant efforts to arrange something, and giving so freely of my time - with any profits that might have remained going to tP - to organise another studio shoot here on tP.

Happy for someone else to pick up the lead on this one if required.

Thanks to all those who expressed an interest.

Ah such a shame. :(

Can I ask how many more people were needed to make the costs feasible? I only found out today that I could definitely make it!!

Hi All...

OK, I have asked Marcel and have his permission to use this thread as a starter-for-10 in order to gauge if there's enough interest from the good folk here on tp for me to be able to book a studio for a day, probably somewhere not too far from Bristol - together with a few models of course - and to hold a Studio Model Shoot session.

I am more than willing to organise this and to make all the necessary arrangements, and also to provide the initial funding to secure both the studio hire and models for the day, but I'd obviously first need to ascertain the level of interest from photographers on talk photography who may like to attend. There are a few costs associated with this type of event and I am only looking to recover these costs; fyi - this is not a commercial venture.

As per the poll you see here, I am looking for a certain level of commitment before I am able to book anything. I do appreciate that costs/prices and dates are all important when considering such sessions, so as such I have created a multi-choice poll for you to use to provide me with your thoughts and feedback.

incidentally: The reason I ask about payments is that if people are willing to pay a little more, then we could possibly get away with having fewer attendees during the day... it's all about economies of scale.

Hopefully we can get enough people interested.

So, please have a read through the questions in the poll and let me have your thoughts by posting in it too... thanks all.

John

I'm interested in a Bristol area shoot but could only do a weekday :)
