Are you happy with your Canon 600EX-RT...

I have 2 YN622s in my setup already. They work great with my 430EXII (in ETTL and Manual). Now that I have 600EXRT though I've ordered YN622C-TX which is a proper controller. This will allow me to fire both 430 and 600 (ie controller on the camera's hotshoe, one 622 transeiver under 600EX-RT and other attached to 430EXII. In theory it should work great. I'll see the practical side when the 622X-TX arrives.

I also have a set of YN 603s to fire my studio strobes and have already tried both YN622 and YN603 attached to the camera to fire both my studio strobes and 430EXII (in manual) and it worked great. With addition of 600EX-RT I should be able to fire all four lights (2x studio strobes and 2x speedlites) at the same time. Just need to wait for YN622C-TX to arrive to test it out.

Great to hear. Just bought four. All I need now is the use of the studio at the end of my road and a willing subject or two.

Getting excited by the prospect now. Time to reread all those speed liter/ flash photography books that are gathering cyber dust

Mind you, I've not tried 622s directly with studio strobes, I have 603s for that purpose which can't do ETTL and are cheaper, so perfect for studio strobes (no need for ETTL there). However I've had both 603 and 622 attached to hotshoe on top of eachother to fire both strobes and speedlites and it worked.

Yeah I was hoping to piggy back the st e3 rt on the 622c using the older flashes to the yn622's as hair lights, strobe duty or backlighting leaving the more control to the 600ex RT's for fill lighting

Not a chance.

Anything on top of an on camera 622 is simply regarded as a group A flash in the 622 grouping. It does not 'pass through' the full data steam.

Hmm Camera -> YN603 (firing strobes) -> YN622 (firing 430EX II) seems to work. BUT I think my 430EXII connected via 622 was set to manual anyway (as you would in a studio) and don't remember if ETTL was available (never checked as I didn't care about ETTL).

Ok how about the Phottix Stratto II triggers? Getting those too as I am truly loathe to sell existing speedlites and with all these I should, excuse the pun have every angle covered.

Put a dumb trigger on the top of a remote 622.

What's wrong with getting more 622s?

If you're going canon rt, it tends to become all or nothing.

You're adding layers of complexity in the hope of creating something simple.

Like Kris says (and me previously?) if you're going with 600ex's that's where you're going. They're not designed to play nice with other systems, whereas a YN622 based solution will cover all bases (Manual speedlights, ETTL, Studio heads, HSS, Supersync etc), you can even mix them up with the YN560 trigger system too.

True enough. But I do love dabbling :-)

I had to stack my triggers again tonight because the 622C-TX has not arrived yet.
