The irony is, on the one occasion, the barge pole would actually arrive :D

Well, yes, however it would be too short, the wrong colour and probably have the end broken off. :D

:D

Now that's a good idea.

Would it be who gets the best deal for a fiver, or who gets the biggest pile of crap for a fiver?

if you ppg me a fiver, i'll bring a boat load of crap to the Peaks meet!:D

There again if i donate it to Rocky, he could sell it on to you:exit::LOL:

Sometimes I hear about good prices for things on his website and I get tempted to try him once, but then threads like this remind me about his reputation!

Rocky has been mentioned before and what you have to do is to expect the worst when you buy something and from there you could be surprised at getting something better.

The worst being that one could, quite literally, do the equivalent of flushing a bank note down the porcelain for no reason? 'Buying' something implies receiving something, and it seems there is a real risk of something not arriving... Think I'll pass :D

His prices seem to have gone up - OM2SP at £69.99? I don't think so matey! £74.99 for a 2N and 50mm 1.8? err yeh, right.

I think I'll pass then :D Usually I have bad luck when gambling, although on Saturday I was totally smashed and didn't do to bad on the horses, so maybe I just need to get drunk before I buy from Rocky? Mind you, it sounds like you'd have to be drunk to want to anyway

I disagree. Speaking from personal experience when I tried this approach, what you should do is expect to receive different items to those that you ordered, at least one item not included, for him to completely ignore your emails despite that being the only way he provides for you to contact him and then for him to threaten you when you finally request a refund through PayPal, because you'd be daft to pay any other way.

...and select the option with Paypal to pay 14 days after delivery ;)

The whole point that people [rightly] have, is that you shouldn't have to choose payment options like that, or chase through unanswered emails etc. I don't wish for him to go out of business, rather I wish for him to sort his business practices out. He'd then no doubt see a surge in custom once trust was regained and then everyone would be happy, no? Given that there are plenty of other places to buy from, he's really nothing special [in a good sense] and hence commands no loyalty.

Rocky has been going for years and would have thought he would have sorted his business out by now...........but for buyers "the mother of idiots is always pregnant", but then some buyers (idiots) have actually had a good deal from him so as said" it's a gamble".

I don't think he's got any interest in actually running a business properly, he just wants to buy and sell crap and rip people off, hoping that enough people put up with it that he can make some money. I'm sure that some people get decent cameras from him, but I think that's more down to luck than anything else

I bought a couple of lenses from him a few years ago and one was very nice but the diaphragm on the other was non-functional and I couldn't be bothered to try fixing it. At that time, though, the price of the two lenses together was a little less than the going price for the one that worked, so I reckoned I was ahead.

Now that he's raised his prices to more or less the same as the rest of the pack, gambles like that aren't worth taking.

Years ago IIRC he used to use a different name on Ebay and got slung off...anyone remember?

It's been said before that he buys in bulk, house clearances and the like so I wouldn't be at all surprised if the 'good' stuff gets moved on through the trade or sold elsewhere while he maintains the Rocky site to get rid of the rest. He makes his money on that site through turnover rather than high margins and there are plenty of people who don't read forums and are willing to risk a few pounds on a potential bargain.

If you can spot a bargain I guess it's not the worst gamble ever. Providing that you assume it's going to be a piece of crap when you get it, pay by PayPal, don't mind the aggravation of trying to get a refund, and then getting verbally abused and threatened when you eventually do.

Although that does sound like a lot of hassle for a minuscule chance of getting something half decent!

Just remembered he used to be ferndalecameras about 6 years ago and on checking before that ebay member 446885 and people were complaining he was a crook then....but he must just keep above the law to exist today. And guys have seen him with a cart full of gear at camera fairs;)

If anyone wants to gamble, I can fill up a cardboard box at home with broken vintage and crap unique cameras, and you can give me £200 for it. It'll probably have the same success rate as buying from Rocky Cameras, but it will be more fun and exhilarating as there will be less of a chance of getting your money back :D

Shut up and take my money.

Dorset!! That git, that's probbaly why I can never find any cheap cameras at car boots round this way, because he's gobbling them all up on the cheap and selling them on :D

Well some dealers do go to booties as at the bootie near me there was a camera (in a large camera bag) looking lonely, this was was about 7:30 am and I said "where are all the lenses" and he replied "they all went about 6:30" HUH!

He's got à business that is still going after à number of years ( more than most of us have i reckon?!) so something is working for him...... he is known to sell lots of crap but as we are aware of that, we can choose to avoid his sales.
Instead we can search out "better" outlets such as those who advertise online, take funds, then inform (eventually) that the object was sold elsewhere!!!!

Tbh it's all à gamble, it's just easier to obtain refunds / replacements from some sellers than others,
Rocky being an "other"!
