Are we too careful with our cameras ?

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I tend to be very careful with my kit.

It's a pretty big financial investment for me, and certainly one that I won't be able to repeat in the foreseeable future.

I'm currently looking into insurance for all my gear, and maybe when I get that sorted I'll be a little less cautious, but I'll still not take unnecessary risks just because it's insured.

I realise that a camera is a tool, but it's not gonna take any pictures at all if it gets broken!

Are you sure it's a 135mm and not a Nikkor Macro, maybe he's shooting Rice Weevil?

To stay on topic,

with my 60D I'm fairly cautious with weather and yet my video camera, which is my professional livelihood,
I'm much more cavalier and that cost ten times as much!

Depends on the camera. As I've recently posted on another thread my 5D does not like the rain, but the 1D Mk II is weatherproofed and seems not to affected by getting drenched with rainwater. As someone else has said, tools not ornaments.

My olympus e3 is very hardy and can withstand many environmental rigors however, only with the right lenses, try dunking it in a river with a kit lens and its goodnight Vienna
