Are these two lenses the same?

Hello!
I joined this forum hoping for some advice when buying a lens.:)

I found the lens I've been wanting for a while on a site which sells second hand camera gear. The lens is a Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Macro, however two showed up for sale.

Both listed are Tamron 90mm macros, however the more expensive one says 'Canon EF fit' and the other just says 'Canon fit'.
I need one which would fit my Canon 450D, I would prefer to buy the cheaper one but I am not sure whether it would fit, like I know the other would. (EF is what my canon would take, right?)

So are there more than one type of this Tamron lens for different canon models? Or can I buy either listed and they'd fit my canon 450d?

Thanks for any advice! Hopefully i'm OK posting in this part of the forum, sorry if not!

(:

Don't suppose you can link the site can you. It's always useful to see further description/images of a lens.

Personally, I'd say they'll both fit - A canon fit is a canon fit, unless it's a really old lens.

Welcome, by the way :)

Thank you groovyf,:)

Here are the links,

canon-fit

canon-ef-fit

I am glad I asked on here first as I was going to go for the more expensive one..

I think they are the same lens, just one is in better condition than the other :)

Phone up MPB and ask them, I've always found them helpfull on the phone

Isn't the EF model the one with the built in motor for auto-focus? If that's so then maybe the other one is manual focus only.

A Canon fit is not a Canon fit, All Canon EF lenses will fit all Canon Autofocus bodies, whether they be film or digital.

A Canon EFS lens will only fit a crop format digital body such as the OP has.

you cannot put an EFS lens on a full frame body.

Chances are the Tamron will fit the 450D.

The price difference may be due to the more expensive model having Vibration reduction built into the lens. Does it have the code VC in the title of the more expensive model?

Pretty sure that all Tamron 90mm lenses are FF so not EF-S, therefore should fit on and work on crop or FF bodies. Looking at the pictures in the link to the just Canon lens, I can see electronic contacts which would indicate to me that it's an AF lens.
Not sure that any of the (many) variants of the Tamron 90mm have had the DiII designation which is their nomenclature for a crop only lens. Don't think they've done a VC version (yet) either.

In general, the Tamron 90mm is a very fine lens and were it not for rampant GAS after my op (which saw a Nikkor 105mm VR come my way), I would still be very happy with mine, however a friend wants to buy it off me and I don't need 2 Macro lenses!

To make absolutely 100% certain that thye lens you choose is suitable for your camera, give MPB a ring and check.

link below would suggest they do do a VC lens for Canon fit, and it is much more expensive (as you would expect) than the non VC version, this may be where the OP is seeing the price difference in the 2 lenses.

The price difference between the 2 lenses isn't vast and we've established is purely down to age / condition.
Bad news for me, because I was going to sell mine, and it's not worth what I'd hoped.

I didn't know Tamron had VCed the 90mm! Not cheap though - not quite as expensive as the manufacturers' offerings but nearly! (And the only price I've seen is that grey importer's price which may well have import duties to add.)

Both the OP's links are to used lenses and I doubt whether the VCs are available on that market yet.

Yes, you're right, I realise I could've been a bit more specific, but as the original poster had mentioned a 450D, then I felt the differences of EF v EF-S did not warrant a mention.

As for the lens, I see the more expensive one has gone? Hope you managed to grab that one, CatZombie.
