Yes
The material is awful. Stands are okay. I have one of these, as with most things in photography I think you get what you pay for.

Just use a plain wall or even a nice garden scene.

Tough call then, they crease really badly, and are not a smooth fabric, the only thing I can compare them to are like kitchen roll, paper weave kind of material, same dotted texture.

Further to that, with a couple of speedlights you'll be better off just using a found background. You'll never light it evenly, but a white wall and a flash a few feet away facing the wall with a stofen situated directly behind your family might blow it enough to work.

Thanks Dean, but the look needed is "those one's with the studio background" so it will have to be some kind of background. My house doesn't have a plain wall that has enough space in front to setup, lengthways the lounge will just about do but needs something due to the stairs.
Thanks twist, I'll factor in some ironing time then..
I might just go for a series of portraits, rather than group shots..

As others have said the material is awful.
I got a free white one with some stands and it went straight in the bin.
Apparently they are a nightmare to get the creases out.
I would try a neutral background first like a plain wall in the house as suggested above. You will be surprised how well they work.

In all honesty you're not going to achieve that studio look with the gear you have with any kind of background... Well, you could for one to two people how I suggest with the other light through a brolly or some such, but it will not be easy.

I've successfully done it with a white sheet gaffer taped to a wall using the speedlight and stofen trick.

May be easier and cheaper to hire a local studio for an hour and use their equipment.
