Are there tunnels below blackpool

Box Tunnel is the long running rumour. But I don't believe it personally.
Nope there is a separate run off into the tunnels under Corsham for the large command centre that was there.
There's also a huge mined out tunnel complex under Bath, occasionally some of it collapses, plus you can follow the river right under as well.

BT owns a lot of the tunnels that run under central London, they're called Deep Level and used for running the cables. They're not open to the public though. Some of them were originally mined out for tube lines that were never completed or used.

I used to maintain the access lift in one of the entry points and I was working in the pit at the bottom of the lift shaft (it was forever filling up with water, which shorted out the lift motor). It was quite gloomy in the tunnels and pretty scary to be honest. I suddenly saw just a pair of eyes floating out of the gloom towards me and I nearly sh*t myself.. turned out to be a very dark-skinned African security man doing his rounds.

Can you still get in there? I heard it had been knocked down. A few years ago it was high on my "to do" list, but it dropped off when rumours of demolition surfaced.
Yes it's now a nature reserve ,but you have to sign in .you have to go through a process to join that includes where you can and cannot go .

Cookes, Penrhyndeudraeth? Only one I can think of that's a nature reserve

EDIT: I see Rhydymwyn does now have a nature reserve.

There have been rumors about tunnels under my home town (Southend-on-Sea) with reports of them running from the E K Cole site to the Hospital and Southend Airport. The theory being that E K Cole produced telecommunication gear for the war effort and if they got bombed they could get the casualties to hospital and supplies to the airport.

It's well documented that the E K Cole building had a large underground shelter but there's been no evidence of these tunnels found. I think it may have been a bit of an embellishment, perhaps something that was said to make everyone feel a little safer.

Funnily enough though, this "story" only surfaced when they said they were going to put a new housing estate/retail park on the site..... now call me cynical but ;)

Very interesting about the tunnels under Liverpool though and the theories about why they're there, I guess they could have been put there for flood defenses and used by the Catholics when their practices were outlawed?

There is a website dedicated to the Liverpool Tunnels and they do regular visits.
I was told that they were purely philanthropic in purpose - giving the unemployed paid labour even though the tunnels had no definable purpose.

As to the mustard gas factory...I'm in contact with the site management about a possible photo trip into the premises. Watch this space.

Interesting thread
I'm glad to see that forum etiquette and camaraderie is alive and well elsewhere too :D

Hi Guy's, I was just wondering has anyone actually found the entrance for the tunnels in Blackpool??
Sure, I'll take you for a guided tour since I don't know you at all and you're still awaiting email confirmation. Would you also like my bank PIN?

What could possibly go wrong? o_O
All sorts if you have a HSE mind. We don't so nothing will!
All those too scared to join in will be green with envy when we come back with a shed load of stunning images.
(That should read "if we come back....")

funnily enough the bird hide is a few feet away from one of the tunnel entrances that are marked with the radioactive symbol ,,the wife says she doesn't mind me going there as she can now find my todger in the dark ,and the bedroom has a lovely green glow to it :exit::exit::exit:

Del Boy once had a bedroom that glowed a lurid green. That caused by Peckham Spring Water. Similarities?

is anyone still actually interested in tunnels In blackpool

About as many as are interested in Daytona 500, apparently. :D
