Yes
They sing about cherry cola in 1970 but the drink wasn't released until 1985! :)

Maybe it's all a big government conspiracy.

I bet you it involves 9/11, Area 51, some alien technology and the faked moon landing.

Mark my words!

Coud have been a local variant of the time? Great song by a band that is very much underrated.

I was never sure whether he'd "picked up" one of them that Thai chicks though ;)

We had a few of them at a Thai festival over the weekend ;) not sure how you guys can't tell the difference :p

It wasn't even an unofficial version tbh...because it predates cherry coke by a long way.
As I understand it these small town soda fountains were adding all manner of fruit syrups to cola (not always coke) at least 30 years before "the real thing"
:)

(But clearly, aliens are involved. Possibly in league with the tiny tiny fly overlords :cautious: )

I can its dead easy, apparently Crocodile Dundee needs to double check though ;)

Yeah but I bet it's more fun checking:p

Just to be anorakish...the original words were Coca Cola and they are sung like that on the album.
The words were changed to Cherry Cola which didn't exist at that time on the single version because of some long forgotten (to me) argument in the good old USofA with the Coca Cola company. Product placement, trade name infringement or one or another of the myriad reasons that big yankee business uses to sue the pants of the innocent.

It will be documented in the Kinks history somewhere, but that's enought of the anorak stuff for me. Delve deep if you really can be bothered. Story is supposed to be a true one about an encounter Ray Davies had.

Well that cleared that up then!
There was a documentary on the Kinks on TV last night..
The BBC made them change the wording on "Coke" due to advertising and product placement rules.

As for Lola, it was written about a friend of Ray's who whiled the night away dancing with an attractive "woman" in a Paris night club.
It wasn't until the early hours of the morning that he noticed "her" 5 o'Clock shadow ;)
