Are Speedlite Battery Packs an advantage over a horde of AA's?

Hey Guys,

Wondered if anyone uses the Flash (speedlite) Battery Packs (not the £500+ studio or portable flash power packs), and if yes, are they much better than having a load of AA's stashed in the car?

An example of what I mean, I'm sure Canon et al have their own.

same power but faster recycle as theres more bateries + they are outside the flash so there is less heat build up
