Are Second hand prices realistic

I'm with gramps on this one I have seen items described as mint that I would describe as scrap.
All but one of my items of photographic equipment have been purchased used at a total saving of approximately £800, I have never had a problem with any of it but then I never buy sight unseen if I can't buy cash on collection I I look elsewhere.
Obviously this option is not possible for everyone because of location etc but it has worked for me.(y)
 
what i can't understand about this lens it supposed to be the dogs danglies and yet the seems to be quite a few always for sale second hand,if it's that good why do people move them on all the time ???
 
I WAS a bit of a snob and only wanted to buy new. However after adding it all up and buying quality 2nd hand I saved so much that I bought a Nikkor 12-24

The idea of a zoom appeals to me far more in theory than it ever has in practice. I've fallen into that trap numerous times and ended up going back to primes pretty quickly. However I imagine there are critical times when they are useful, buying used for a few events and selling it on after is often cheaper then hiring.

I bought a used Nikon 10.5 Fisheye for a 5 day New York trip then sold it, all-in it cost me a tenner...much, much cheaper than hiring.
 
People changing to using primes or as above don't like the weight? Same for the Canon 24-70mm lens, always loads of those being sold on and I don't think there's much wrong with them.
