Are PS3 controllers really fragile, or have I just been unlucky?

I got a pre-owned PS3 the other day, and while it's absolutely awesome, I'm having a few issues with the controllers. It's a 60GB launch model, so comes with the original sixaxis controller. The first one I had worked fine for about 24 hours, then it was as if the left control stick was permanently pulled down (very annoying trying to play games). So I took the controller back to Game, and they got another pre-owned one from a different box, I took it home, charged it up, and this one seems to have the left stick slightly forwards!

Is this a common problem? I know there's always a bit of a risk buying pre-owned, and I was prepared for a few cosmetic marks etc, but these controllers don't work! I don't know if the controllers are a bit fragile, or if they've just been treated badly by their previous owners...

So I was just wondering what my course of action should be? Do I just keep going back to Game until they give me one that works?!

Any advice would be much appreciated, I want to play and I can't!! :help:

Hiya Chris

My brother had the same problem with his original six-axis controller, we took it back to Woolworths and they swapped it for one of the new Dual Shock 2 controllers - they said that they'd had loads of people bringing them back with the same problem. I would take it back to Game and show them what it's doing and see if they can give you a new one.

Hope this helps.

Alison :)

Thanks a lot for your reply! I just googled it as well, and it seems to be a widespread problem! There are loads of instances of it occurring! I'll take it back tomorrow, see if I can get them to replace it with a Dualshock 3, I'm not going to be holding my breath though! They'll probably just give me another broken Sixaxis :(

That's the one I meant Chris  - a Dualshock 3 controller - the one that came out towards the end of last year just before Woolies closed.

Game should sort you out with a controller that works - does their used stuff come with 12 months guarantee?

Alison :)

Cheers guys, if they offer me another sixaxis I may see if I can blag my way to a DS3! Yeah, all their stuff has a 1 year guarantee, the last time I took a controller in they just looked at the receipt, and went to get another straight away. So it's a good service, at least, but fragile hardware!
