are my photos that rubbish that they need ignoring?

I also have another photo in the anoymous section aswell, not sure what the rules are on telling people what one it is though.

I live in west calder and i also attend herriott watt university at ricerton.

Well, more than happy to go shooting with you. As my name suggests, I'm in Edinburgh. 15 mile from you. There are lots of us Edinburgers here, and I enjoy the company at times. It's easy to learn from one another.

Just let us know if you ever fancy it. And because you are new, I can put your mind at rest. I'm 28 and married, and as stable as they come. Just ignore what the others say :D

Gary.

I just think it wrong to expect help and assistance if you are not going to do the same for others. Opinions have nothing to do with technical ability they are down to an individuals personal taste. You will never please everyone all the time, just make sure it is "constructive" and not "obstructive"

I am not saying that i am not willing to give my opinion on other peoples photos all i am saying is that i am a complete newbie when it comes to photography and it wouldnt be fair if i gave criticism on someone elses photograph as i really dont have that much of a clue. I am saying that in time when i do understand it a bit better i will be the first person to be helping out people who are in a similar situation to what i am now. I am not trying to "slag-off" the forum or anything i am just voicing an opinion which is the case in many forums online. You need to earn you way into the community.

Not harsh at all ... and I'm am only using Renclio's example to highlight that he should not be ashamed of voicing a personal opinion ..... I think anyone posting a comment should make sure they are not saying anything they would not say face to face.

Sorry, I think it was harsh, calling him selfish when at the end of his post he said he wants to turn the advice he gets around and use it to help others.
Of course that is MY personal opinion.

Personally I dont think you need to be "qualified" in any way shape of form to have an opinion , your photographic background matters not , its a case of what works and what is pleasing to the eye or not , its only when people are asking things of a more technical nature then it becomes more important to know what you're talking about.

At the end of the day to enjoy and appreciate someones work you dont need to be "qualified" otherwise if this was the case these "pro's" wouldn't sell very much of their work !

I don't believe that's a case here. I don't "know" anyone here.

You don't need to earn anything here, I've been slating peoples work since before I even owned a DSLR. Just look at people photos and if you like the say why you like them and if you don't say why you don't. Not all crit needs to be technical a quick 'You've caught some brilliant colors in that one' or an 'I don't really like the look of that one' is equally valuable, afterall I would much prefer someone to say they liked my photo then it was technically perfect but they hated it.

We all get this on times, I shouldn't worry about it. I have a thread in a section here containing a few shots that I was particularly pleased with but that has only received a single reply. It's no offence when one doesn't receive comments... just keep taking shots and posting them because we all like to look at photos.

Such as...

Mainly to do with it being a job I suppose. What people other than the clients think of the pictures is irrelevant really. Posting 10 pictures from a race on this and several other forums doesn't pay my wages. I know they are good for their purpose, so don't really benefit from "wow! great pics!" or "it would be good if it was a metre to the left."

In the nicest possible way of course! I will comment on other peoples stuff, but (again, in the nicest possible way), as and when I feel like it.

sorry if i have upset anyone in this thread, this was not my intention it was just merly me trying to express that i would like people to play a bit more of an active role in the criticism and try and help me gain some photographic knowledge :D As any person new to the game would

Don't think anyone's offended matey. Threads like this are very important on these here t'nterwebby type forum places to stir up a bit of emotion.
It also helps as a guide for those of us who believed that guys and gals (and those in between) with much more talent would not be interested in the opinions of noobs. I was always under the impression the C&C section was for pros and almost pros to "pass judgement" on the efforts of us less gifted.
I will make more of an effort to voice my opinion if I think I can be of any help in future.

Yup, don't worry... you should it when there's a proper bun fight on here :D

I simply don't have time to wade through all the forums and comment on everything..........simple as that!

When I'm online I tend to look first at "User CP" to check out my own threads and those I'm subscribed to and make comments/thank those that have commented.

I then look at "new posts".......but generally only open and look at the Bird, Macro, Animals and Nature stuff initially. If I have time then I'll have a look in some of the others as well, but generally only if a title interests me or it seems to be something unusual.

Tbh I generally ignore the Motorsports/Transport/Sports completely.

If I look at something, generally I try to comment. I don't think that there is anything wrong with "nice post" or "great shot" types of comment. They can be a great morale booster..........especially to those of us who aren't great photographers!

The more you post and comment.........the more comments you get! That's what I've found anyway.

Another issue with the motorsports section is that a lot of the threads have 10 or more pictures in, it is hard to give decent crit about that many images.

I've noticed this a few times now..i've posted some photos then get maybe 1 or 2 replies if im lucky, and about 100 views. Within a day its down at the bottom of page 2 whereas everyone else posts photos and immediatly get several hundred views and a million replies and stay near the top of page 1 for a few days. It just really ****es me off that i take the effort (like everyone does) to go out, spend money, take time off work to get some photos of something i enjoy, take time and effort in the post process, post them to get some feedback, and greeted with a wall of silence.

I appreciate this a busy forum and people only have time to reply to a few threads (like myself) but surely theres more than 1 person out there that has the time to reply and critic my photos.

Its just really annoying that for all the effort i put in, i get virtually nothing in return :bang:

Am i the only one that gets this or does everyone else get ignored or no replies? Or are my photos really that bad?

*rant over...and breathe....*

Are your photos really that bad? Yes. What kind of thread is this?!
