Are Facebook and Ebay linked?

I just bought a wireless handsfree kit on Friday on Ebay for an office IP phone, a fairly specific Samsung one phone.

Suddenly I'm seeing an advert for it from Ebay pop up on my Facebook advertising the same hands free kit? (not the same advert, just the same kit) It's even showing the same model phone - what are the odds?

It got me thinking:
  • My Paypal account and Facebook use the same email address
  • Ebay account uses a different email address.
  • But Ebay owns Paypal I think?
So is Ebay is looking at my purchases then looking at both my Ebay and Paypal email addresses to find me on Facebook and post related adverts? My profile is set so it doesn't allow my email address to be used to find my profile, so is Facebook selling my email address? lol
 
it's just targeted advertising - to do with cookies/cached data - not different websites sharing information directly
 
Did you google the item at any point? Google searches lead to ads and spam. I've stopped using google search and I have found spam has reduced and it is not using the same subjects as I have been googleing for.
 
I use Google as my search engine of choice and also use my gmail address as my main e-mail. Not had any spam related to searches.

Were you using the same browser for both? I'm logged into Chrome with my gmail account and so adverts appear all over the place for things I've been looking to buy!

Do you have an ad-blocker installed? Or use private browsing mode maybe? If you have a normal browser install you should be seeing targeted ads.

This. Every day I get reminded of products I researched or bought the previous day.
 
I clear my cache, history etc using several programs constantly because of the online banking I do but I guess that could explain it. Scary!

Not that I'm aware of. No. 2 ads in the promotions area of my gmail inbox, neither related to any search I've made.

There's a great website that shows you which websites are tracking you and how they're sharing with others eg if you jump from say ebay to FB. Adblock has been accepting money to allow "non intrusive" adverts.

I saw that, Great!
Money indeed does talk!

Microsoft, Amazon, Google and more of the world’s biggest internet companies paid AdBlock Plus to have its adverts pass through its ad filtering software.
