Yes
I have never used another DSLR other than my Samsung GX20 (Pentax K20D) but last week at college I picked up one of the college's cameras which was a Canon 450D. I was amazed at how cheap and nasty it felt compared to mine and it seemed that if I gave it a squeeze it would pop apart. I have never handled a Nikon so I can't comment on those but I must say it'll take a lot of convincing for me to move away from Pentax.

!!Ouch!!

Hope that your toughed skinned as I'm sure that a Canon user will be along shortly to say something....

My god, after your contributions to that recent "wedding" thread I thought you might have got the hang of this............but I'm not gonna rise to the bait

My old 350D did feel a little small and toy like, but felt the build quality was fine. Housemate has a 550D and the build quality has certainly come on, but naturally it isn't quite upto XXD standards, but then I think that's just down to size as his 550D is pretty well built compared to my ageing 40D

Grab yerself a Idmkiv ............ then tell us Canon feels cheap !!!

I am being serious (in a jokey way) my only experience of another camera was the one at college and it was just cheap and nasty. Are they all like that?

I'll quite happily use my Canon as a conker against your Samsung if you like. Lets see how long it lasts then.

Have you ever handled a Pentax K20D? It'll probably break your foot if you dropped it.

It's made from plastic with a metal sub-structure.

Have you ever handled one of the 1D series?

Well there's the thing. Have you every tried to break a lego block*? It's pretty bloody hard.

*and I don't mean the narrow strips.

Like a 450D,except the 450D a Frame made with aircraft aluminium, and the circuits are rather small as its an entry level Dslr.
Now compare that to the K20d made from building girders then wraped in plastic :P

You're comparing what I think is an 'enthusiast' Samsung to an entry level Canon so I would expect there to be a difference. Likewise I bet the Samsung would feel like a little toy compared to a 1D series body - It's all relative I guess.

oh no you didn't!

I do agree that the Budget Canons feel small and flimsy which is what swayed me towards the Sony a300 when I was choosing between that and the 450D. You must remember however you K20D/GX-20 is a mid range/ semi pro body equivalent of a d90/d300 so it's going to be tougher/heavier :)

When the earth get's destroyed by us blowing each other up in a huge nuclear war all that will be left will be cockroaches and lego.

So to say Canon's feel like lego is a huge compliment!:D

Maybe so. Like I said - it's the only other camera I have handled, I suppose it's ok for light duties but I wouldn't want to take it on holiday or use it in a crowd for fear it would fall apart.

Like it...

 That should boost the sales of Canon camera's then - if nothing else

The bottom of the line one's are a bit plasticy. The one's I've handled feel strong enough for the average photographer though!

I've handled a K20D next to my 40D. The k20D has an edge on built quality, a little more solid.
But it isn't half heavy.

My 40D is easily well built and solid enough for anything I'll ever through at it. I don't often throw my cameras at walls. If I did, I would have a pentax ;).

I have no idea why you would ever want to switch from a GX20 to a xxxD canon anyway. That would be stupid :).

Having had the K10D and K20D I have to say it is one very solid camera and no, the 450D is not a patch on them (nor is the D90), but the D300 and 7D are pretty solid cameras.

Saying that once you have handled a K-5 for a few days you would never go back to the K20D. Just as well built but much nicer to hold.

Mine's made of Lego yes.

My K100D feel's Exactly like a 450D, Just hevier as theres weights in it to make it feel heavier. Compare the K100D to the K20D and it would be the same i guess.
But the thing that lets down the Pentax, its electronics only lasted on mines a year and a half before it needed repaired. as opposed to my other halfs 450D,which is about 2 years old now and still works :)

So on the basis of one camera breaking down it means the complete range is dodgy?

I must get hold of the bloke I sold my 50,000 actuation 3 year old K10D to and warn him at once. :cuckoo:

the k100d are nothing like the k20d, the k100d build quailty is still better than any beginer canon dslr,
the pentax k20d and samsung have plastic body with stainless steel frame and awsome weather sealing, the newer k7/k5 have mag alloy frame and polycarbonate bodies which are harder again,

I've been in a Ferrari F40, the interior felt VERY cheap and like it was made in a shed by some old man...............it did shift quite nicely though.

When did i say that? :S i use Pentax cameras on a daily basis and never have a problem with them, only my K100D, and im not the only one,my dads had a few problems altogether when he purchased his new at the end of 2006 and had it replaced. my personal experience with pentax has been iffy.with exceptions to their Digital film camera's which havent cause me a single problem. whilst i have only used two systems i can only compare them together, and ive never used and KXXD cameras so i cant compare them to that either, and i havent.

I somehow managed the throw a canon 1dmkII and a sigma lens onto the rd... the sigma lens smashed off and the canon camera just bounced a couple of times before coming to a stop... The lens was nearest to me and wasnt a pretty sight with bits of wire sticking out and all smashed up..

I got to the canon 1dmkII and I swear i heard it laughing... the colliding on the floor and bouncing along had no effect whatsoever.. as if it never happened..

Canon...harder than yer average hobnob..

the thing that lets down the Pentax

The Word "The" Is an Adjective. Adjectives Modifie a noun or pronoun by describing, identifying, or quantifying Certain words. Now seeing as I left the word "Pentax" Singular and i didn't pluralise it, I could only have ment the one Item that I personaly Have drawn my opinion from.

Now if I had said, The thing that let's down the Pentax's. Then, you would have been correct. But i'm affraid on this occasion, You are Far from it.

One of the Canons I had survived a fall into a river and a fall of three feet onto concrete (not at the same time). Not too bad, I feel.

If you want the Chuck Norris of DSLR's, then get the Nikon D3s. ;) Going out now. I'll leave you with that to ponder on.. :D

Kev.

naughty school boy creeps away....

No it isn't.

'The' is a definite article.

Unfortunately for you this is the post that confirms you're a troll and a ****. If you've got nothing better to say then please don't post thank you.
