As i am looking for a backup device for my Hols, I am considering an Archos to double up as an MP3 player. I understand it will not display the NEF files from my Nikon D80 but I assume it will download them for storage.

Can someone please confirm.

As long as you have a travel adapter and the necessary USB leads, it will do as you require.

I use my Archos as you intend.

Should have said, it all depends on which Archos your looking at. The current '05 and previous '04 models will need the travel adapter, whereas my AV500 is straight cable connection.

Thanks for that, just wanted to ensure I can clear my SD card and download to the Archos when needed. All the info I see says it will handle JPEG and I assumed it would transfer the NEF's but not show them on the screen.

It's a pity they don't allow the ability to load plug-ins that would allow the viewing of RAW files. I believe some people shoot RAW+Jpeg, just so they can view on the Archos, but that seems a bit overkill to me.
