Hi all

I now have a Kirk plate on my 400 2.8 which of course has an arca-swiss style quick release.

Is there a plate I can buy that will mount directly to a monopod and allow the Kirk lens plate to fit as quick release? I've looked at various websites and cant quite work out exactly what I need!

Any help is appreciated, thanks! :)

Take a look at the Kirk page

http://www.kirkphoto.com/platforms.html

you are looking for one which has a 3/8" thread for putting onto your monopod unless it has the smaller 1/4" size then look for a 1/4" thread.

A lot of people just screw the monopod straight to the plate without the quick release clamp. I have tried both and dont have a prefrence, if your going to be switching lenses on the monopod a lot go for the quick release.

Something like this?

Hi all, thanks for your responses.

mho - yeah those are the ones - I guess I didnt look very hard!

Canon Bob - I think you've hit the nail on the head there! The Krik foot only has 1/4" inch holes and like you say I dont trust the 400 on a 1/4" stud! I dont even trust my 300 on it either! I think I need a monopod with a 3/8" stud and then a QR plate with a same-size thread.

Ideally I'd like to screw the monopod directly to the tripod foot, but with 1/4" thread I dont really want to!

I'll have a look at that thread you linked to, thanks. :)

I use the Kirk plate on my monopod with a 500 f/4. Warehouse sell them.

This is what I use. I'll happily hang it over my shoulder and it hasn't fallen off (yet!)

I use a Kirk MPA-1 monopod mount for my shorter lenses.

My 70-200mm f/4L IS lens uses an Arca Compatible bracket which fits right onto the MPA-1. If I am shooting with a lens that doesn't include a tripod ring; I use a really Right Stuff L-bracket to mount the camera on the MPA-1.

When I am shooting with long and heavy lenses, I will utilize a Manfrotto 393/3421 Gimbal Mount. This gimbal works well with either a monopod or a tripod.
