Any one got some advice on the development times for apx 400s which I gather is rebranded as retro 400s and Firstcall, the time for stock D76 is given as 11 minutes but I'd like to use 1+1. But my Google fu is weak and keeps returning times for the old emulsion.

Retro 400s in D76 (1+1) is 11 mins @ 20 degrees.

Hmm, I'd expect it would be longer at 1+1 maybe it's not retro. Dev chart gives 11 minutes for apx 400 too but I suspect that's the old emulsion.

Oh well, In the absence of anyone knowing for sure I'll do it for 18 minutes, seems to be about average for 400 films in D76.

Looks okay. It'll be tomorrow evening before I find out if I've over done it. Hard to tell from the negative.

It was a b****r to get on the spiral, last two frames look like they were touching something, very dark bands.

Well 18 minutes looks to be ok, contrast is okay and images look to be well enough developed.

A little review if I could be indulged.

The grain is much nicer than K400 but not quite as fine as Tri-x, it is very flat though I've not come across a budget film that is so easy to scan. The emulsion is very delicate; I had some trouble getting this on the spiral, not sure why might just be the material but nearly a third of the frames are badly scratched, most worse than this. If I'd not had such a large number of rejects any way it would have been annoying. As it was shooting cycling on a manual focus camera results in a fair number of missed focuses. The reusable cassettes will come in handy in the next few months for my pinhole projects I've got planned.
