i'm fairly certain this would have been done before at some point in the past, im just interested in a really recent/up to date perspective on the apps available past and present that warrant the investment in purchasing etc...

some would have been available in the past which could be loved by some, and loathed by others, so im just trying to weed out the worthless and worthwhiles.......

myself personally, using an ipad2- have bought the following

* canon handbook app-
was useful and a good point of reference and relatively cheap (1000d version) am awaiting the update for my 650d and would probably purchase the 650d version to..... i'd personally rate it 4/5 as some of the more experienced wouldnt benefit greatly from it

* photo caddy app-
really useful application which explains stereotypical camera settings for various scenarios- was very helpful intially and improved my results early into my efforts at dslr'in... 5/5 wicked results made possible with little or no experience- well worthwhile

* i've got a couple of light metering apps-
they both offer same suggestions so fairly likely to be accurate'ish... just something about them that make me wonder if the purchase was worthwhile or not (others may have a better insight- but my camera offers equally as effective recommendations) i'd probably only rate that as a 2/5 as the aperture/time/iso calculators potentially could come in handy...

* depth of field calculator-
seemed like a handy app at time of purchase but have never found a need to use the app.... so realistically i cant suggest a rating

* photography 101-
its good for the first couple of views to get your head around what it does and how the camera works etc.. very handy for newbies or people changing from simpler cameras into the dslr minefield 5/5 if you newish

* color a FXD-
was portrayed as a handy app but once you get it you'l quickly realise its utterly useless not even worth looking at 0/5 dont waste you cash

* power cam-
again utterly pointless, and not what it would initially seem before purchase.... it trys to make your camera a dslr by suddenly imitation effects but fails miserably.... again not even worth looking at 0/5 save your cash

* torch app and night light app-
very simple apps..... just a white screen thats illuminated- free of charge (thankfully) but have used it numerous times and it comes in handy- instead of using diffusers and deflectors etc 4/5 well simple

* iphotolux and whitegoods light meter-
i installed this app when i was considering purchasing a light meter (in search or better results)... the lux meter could be handy but i havent used the app version as you can get just as accurate results purely by adjusting the metering settings etc... so as not used its hard to rate

what apps do you have??? what ones do you use??? what ones could you recommend??? whether it be recently added applications or donkeys old ones that were just purely good

I've got Photoshop Express on my Galaxy Note, although I've not really had a play to be honest, what I have seen however seems ok. I had a couple of metering apps on my iPhone a while back, but I found I never used them. My meter stays in the bag with my camera anyway.

I'm looking for a long shutter cal for andriod but can't find a good one and can't rembered what I used on ios

massive dev chart

please excuse my ignorance but i've not come accross a dev chart previously..... what does this measure and help the photographer do exactly???

It's for developing film in the developer
So it's only good if your in to film
And it's like £6

ok... cant say ive personally tried developing film etc... would love to see how its done at some point out of interest, but ive only used basic compacts and more recently dslrs so have had no need to do that before...

The only reason I know is because I had to do developing for tech, didn't do to much for me

Sorry about the delay getting back to my reply, been away.
Yeah well like already mentioned if your not shooting film, you won't have much use for this app but if you are shooting film and more importantly developing your own black and white at home then its the best and you probably have it or some version of it.
There is a printable version but that's not got fancy countdown in stages or whatnots you can adjust.

Is this dev chart app just called exactly that? I'm going to take a look in my App Store!

Yes it is, not cheap mind you...

Some of these are based on the maxim that the best camera is the one you have with you. The iPhone 4 camera is not far off ok.

Camera + - allows a bit more control of the camera including the ability to choose separate focus and exposure points.

Snapseed - PP on the move and cheap enough.

Quadcamera - takes several photos in succession and arranges them in a grid. Included the ability to stack them as an animated gif.

Lightmeter - it works ok.

Idof - a good learning tool to get a feel for dof.

Expositor lite - a good learning tool for exposure.

Nikon learn and explore - ok reading material for trains.

Iso500 - 5oopx client

The Photographer's Ephemeris - shows the time and direction of the rise and set of the sun and the moon.

If you don't need it as a app it is free for PCs and Macs.

I use it for every dev
I use it for experiment logging such as stand dev
Best paid app I've got i think.
I know you can get the same info from the digitaltruth but the timer is great

I use it for every dev too :thumbs:

So does it tell you the temperature of the chemicals...or do you need a separate app for that? :)

the standard is 20 but the app has an automatic compensation for temp if needed
or use this chart from ilford
time.gif

but dont dip your smartphone in the soup to see if its at 20
