We recently applied for various credit cards and chose to accept the one we felt suited our needs a few days ago, BUT since then we have been bombarded with phone calls from other not so reputable companies we have never heard of offering us loans of all sizes................this is down to us rejecting some cards and putting our tel number out to tender, is there anything we can do to stop the pestering calls, and before anyone asks NO we dont owe anyone any money...yet :lol:
 
The TPS stops 75% of calls I reckon. If you do get calls from double glazing etc, just say your on the TPS and the person on the other end should inform you that you'll be removed from their lists straight away.

Doesn't stop James/Michael/Simon with a heavy Indian accent getting through as TPS doesn't cover them. I've just had one now where the call was silent for 3 seconds then I get 'Hello, can I speak to mister Adam'.

Love playing with those calls. Say 'just a moment please' and then walk off and make a cuppa then see if they are still there. I think they have to stay on till the customer hangs up. :D

Thanks for the info on TPS ....JUST had a call from the only card that turned us down from Barclays, offering us a loan:cuckoo:.........no thanks
 
i had this after warehouse express turned down my credit application for a lens, i got bombarded with crap mail and calls trying to give me credit. so be aware that even the credit agencies used by retailers sell lists to people.

it was obviously connected with the warehouse express order as some of the letters stated that 'we are aware you;ve recently been turned down for credit....' they fizzed out after a while and now i just get the usual MBNA and barcleycard mail..... i really should fill it out with the details of the highest person i can find within that company on the internet..... im sure if everyone did that it would make them think twice..!

OMfG Just had another from some company we have not contacted.....a company caled Vanquis offering us a 5k loan at 86.5apr...............what, do people actually fall for this.

The TSB visa we have just taken is 0% FOR 12 MONTH and 8% for the next 12 month so long as we stick to agreement then it goes up to 19%apr which I would say is normal ....but 86.5%....is a criminal offence
 
Where the hell do these companies get information from, we dont want a loan ,we havent applied for a loan, we just thought we may need a card as we are travelling a lot more but we always carry enough cash to cover us but made the mistake of getting a card............change of phone number required I think

people do , desperate people that is , agree though , it should not be allowed :bang:
 
Whenever I give my phone number or address out, I always state 'Please mark it down as no marketing'. Specifically state it each time.

Either that or string em along. Any company that is desperate enough to need ti mither me in my home unannounced, uninitiated, and uninvited can't be that good can they ;)

And I tell any sales person who knocks on my door that.
 
Pete, just ask them to hold on for a second whilst you get a pen and paper, then go about your nomal stuff. its quite fun to see how long they are willing to hang on :D

:lol::lol::lol: I did something like this, this morning told them to hold on and put the phone next to the TV whilst my son was watching Kerrang.

20mins later they were still there so I hung up.....havent called since:lol:
 
When I was in halls in my first year of uni we used to keep a notebook and stopwatch by the communal phone. Then we had a competition to see who could keep the sales people on the phone the longest. The only thing was you weren't allowed to put the phone down. Funnily enough they stopped calling after a while.

Pretend to transfer them to different departments. Get a radio/music player and leave the handset next to it for 10 mins at a time, then answer with a ridiculous department name:

"Hello can I speak to Mr Smith please?"
"Sure, let me transfer you." (place phone near source of music)
.....10 min......
"North London Treacle Mining HR Department how can I help?"
"Can I speak to Mr Smith Please?"
"Oh, you need the motorcycle ashtray cleaning department. Let me transfer you...."
.....10min.....

Repeat as necessary :)

i just get the wifes panic alarm out and set it off next to the mouth piece

No we applied to quite a few to see which one suited us best and turned the ones we didnt want down...now they have our phone numbers mobile and home dammit:lol:
