Well I finally had to gut my mouse as I could no longer clean the ball using my rocket blower, and I must say it is a very easy operation to perform.

The only slightly hair raising moment is when you are removing the moulding from the base of the mouse.

After that the whole operation takes about 5 mins depending on how dexterous you are.

Now I am scrolling with a smooth ball again...

No pun intended..

Now where did I put the super glue.......

Doesn't that ball thing get in the way of the laser ??

Is that the top ickle ball? Ours has stopped working in one direction and I was thinking I might just send it back.

I have had my mighty mouse for 16 months now and the scroll ball has been playing up a little - especially in the vertical direction. I have been using the Apple recommended method of cleaning i.e. with lint free cloth and alchohol, but the 'fix' was lasting less and less each time before I lost vertical scrolling.

I decided to venture into the unknown and prize the mouse apart - but following these excellent instructions (with pics). All is now 100% in the burns household wrt mighty mouse...

Use a wet wipe type thing, turn the mouse off and roll around for a while, then roll around some more with kitchen roll, you will be amazed at the amount of kak that comes out !

The Apple wireless mouse is a lovely piece of engineering for a few weeks! I find it is the only item out of a long long list of Apple hardware items that I find the need to bang against the desk and shout at :) But its still the best mouse in the world

It is easily the best mouse I've ever used, I was wary about spending that much on a mouse, but it was worth it. I've been using the wet wipe/kitchen towel cleaning method and it's been fine, although I do make sure I never use my laptop with dirty hands, so that might help.
