Yes
Recently ordered a Martian notifier smart watch that was on offer from zavvi but still awaiting delivery and since then been looking at the apple watch a little more and trying to justify its price.Anyone here got one and how do you rate it?.I really do like the look of it and the added features over the martian and apparently IOS 2 has made some significant changes for the better to the watch.

I got the Fenix3 instead because it has inbuilt GPS, properly waterproof and suits my lifestyle. Yes I am an apple lover too!

I am open to suggestions lol..not really considered a smartwatch until recently. Not heard of the fenix will take a look

Ive seen and handled one they are worth about 40 quid

Battery life is way too short. I'd wait until they 'mature' a little bit before spending that much on one.

I don't see that as an issue at all. Before Apple Watch, on going to bed I would take my watch off and put it on my bedside table. Now I have an Apple Watch, on going to bed I take my watch off and put it on my bedside table. The only difference is, now a magnetic charger is stuck on its back overnight.

But then you are missing out on a key feature don't you? I know it doesn't matter to you, but that is really what has been holding me back. 18 hours or there about is just not good enough, in my opinion, for a product like this. I guess the Pebble and Microsoft band spoiled me with their much longer battery life.

Or perhaps just get two :)

PS. All my smart watches are gathering dust actually....I prefer my mechanical ones....Having to charge and not being charged at the crucial time is just annoying me...

Read somewhere that a reasonably significant number of Apple Watch owners no longer use them, having either sold them or just not wearing them now. (Over 10% IIRC.) Better and cheaper alternatives are available.

What key feature? If I thought that I'd be wearing it when I slept and charging it before I left for work.

My Garmin Fenix3 lasts weeks before needing a charge! I also keep it on all the time. It even tracks my sleep (if your into that). The Apple Watch can track how long it's being charged on the bedside table.

18 hours battery life for a watch is rubbish. Stay out a bit late and it's run out of power. Use it for 2 years and it's probably got even shorter life if you are recharging it every single day. Apple did a big miss with this. 5 days typical use would be where I'd have one. I'd hope their mk2 or mk3 would offer several days power as that is where the majority would think one is actually worth having.

Nice looking piece of kit that.

Thanks. Yeah, Im quite pleased with it for what it cost. The new Moto is also nice, 2 diff size faces.

Being synched with text notifications, email etc. I have about 75% battery left from 7am - 10pm, Id say lower usage but thats fine and when its very heavy usage I can just charge (charges very fast). Also includes a nice charging dock.

As long as you realise that that is your opinion. Subjective and not factual.

Oh my opinion was in no way factual, I just thought its made of realy cheap metal and rubber and plaggy to about the same standard as one of those old cheap calculator watches.
I think £40 was generous :-)

From what little I have seen apple are just miles in front on design and miles behind function to the other ones.

There are 3 different models, differentiated by materials used. Cheaper models are made of anodised aluminium, dearer models 18k gold.

IMHO its a piece of over rated over priced junk, 2 guys i work with bought them when they came out, neither have still got them, they passed back and forth amongst other drivers for varying prices, i would say 6/7 out of the 12 drivers have owned them but none own them now, battery life wouldnt last a full shift of 12 hours

Mine goes on at 6:30am and I take it off at 11:00. I have never seen less than 30% battery remaining. All I can base my opinion on is my own user experience. I'd assume that if anyone was only getting 12 hours use out of it then they have a faulty model.

Calling something you have no personal experience of (other than I know someone who......) over priced junk is a tad pointless. I'd not claim any of the other smart watches are junk based on what other people say.

Of course ive got personal experience of the thing, i was one of the other 6/7 muppets who parted with cash to own it (for a short time) its rubbish IMHO

Well you didn't say you owned one did you. The opinion you shared was based on hearsay.

I wouldn't describe the apple watch as junk, its product placement and brand selling at its best (or worst) and leaves you in no doubt why apple corp have more cash than some countries or continents.
I do hope that once they have all the cash in the world they will do the decent thing like Microsofts Bill Gates and do something honest with it.

it delivers everything an apple wanabee wants, high price, poor specs, pretty sad battery life everything that there phones deliver.

on top of that it looks very bland like there phones.

it does have some usefull items like the heart rate monitor so it can link with fitness apps, but real athletes already have much better products from the likes of garmin that are better and cheaper.

Fenix3 owner here. No brainer for me.

Works well with my 6S and does a LOT more than the AppleWatch will ever be able to do with regards to activities.

couple of runners I know one has that and the other a Suunto, Fenix is pretty damned big tho.

It's my everyday watch but I'm a big(ish) guy.

I pair it with my Garmin Edge 1000 and they work flawlessly together on my road bike.

Also enjoy monitoring my weight training sessions with it.

I've got one, nice gadget.. Don't use all the features and have no issues with battery life whatsoever...

As always there are going to be folks that love them because they are Apple, then others that hate them because they are Apple... Same as Canon and Nikon, all personal preference, nothing more nothing less... Even reviews in magazines are split, some love, some hate... Why do folks by iPads or Macbooks when there are probably better for less money, because they look nice and have a shiny Apple logo.

A couple of the guys in our office have them and love them, wear them all the time since buying. I've just bought one off here for my son as well, his mates 13/14 have them or are getting for Christmas for no other reason than they are "cool", and I suspect so they can dick around in class at school.

For me, it hasn't changed my life and I suspect it will be worn for a while before being put to one side when the next "big" thing comes along. As I said, for me it is a nice gadget and next to the other "smart" watches it is more appealing. It is also very affordable if you go to the starter watches, not much more than a Casio G-Shock with bluetooth.

Anyway, IJMHO :runaway:

Does the garmin fenix 3 need a phone with data coverage available? eg if you're out and about and suddenly think, oh poo I'm lost, will it need a phone signal to get maps to display?

I think a watch battery that lasts less than a whole weekend is poor, unless you have to take one charger for your phone and watch.

FWIW, I now use android and use a pebble watch, which is all I need from a watch, it also worked well with my iphone.

I love the iPad and currently still own a 1st gen one, i loved my iMac but no longer own one, my dislike of the watch isnt based on the brand but purely of the device itself.

No it wsn't, you wrongly assumed it was, do try to keep up

You may get off on arguing for the sake of it but I don't. I'm happy for you. But you had not mentioned you had owned one until I pointed out you were basing your views on others' experiences. But hey ho, life goes on.

Gary, sorry wasn't making direct reference to you... I was making a general observation TBH... Android, Apple, etc.. lovers and haters... There are bound to be folk that hate them having owned them or tested them, it is always just an opinion.

I don't class myself as an Apple fan as it's all mostly Microsoft at this end (I know, I know, bear with me on this one) but if people are lucky enough to have the money to pay for an Apple watch, like they can afford the latest iPhone, then good on them.

However, the way I see it, if Microsoft also manufactured their own version of the e-watch with the same computer spec and battery life as the iWatch. I still wouldn't buy it as 1) I'd get fed up with having to keep charging it up every day and 2) my windows smartphone has a clock and all the apps on it. Also, I don't go jogging or cycling anywhere so such a watch would very quickly become a five-minute wonder novelty item.

No, it has it's own GPS. Don't need your phone with you at all.
It's MUCH more accurate too.

PS: My Fenix3 will last around 3-4 weeks off one charge with Bluetooth enabled and smart notifications coming through all day long.

When it's in 'all singing all dancing' mode with GPS et all turned on, it lasts around 48 hours.

I think the few posts above do highlight the biggest issue with the apple watch and that's for sports use, it has the bells and whistles but poor battery and not rugged enough make it a poor challenger for out and about activities. For in the office and pub fair does
