Apple update available due to security issue

don't apples just update themself auto?
my androids just do
 
Until the manufacturer doesn't pay anymore (I presume that's the reason). My LG phone is on Android 9 and will never update now, my wife's Razr is on 11 and also will get no more updates.

You can set them to automatically download update only, download and run update automatically or manual only update.

I quite like the manual only updates as changes in operating system can potentially slow things down a bit or there could be a dodgy update release thats initially found to need a fix. I prefer to have that control myself.

Yes but its not often done the moment an update is released, There was a time when your service provider controlled the update.

The recent update had a potential security flaw so an update has been released and you advised to update straightway

I have looked at the OH's iPad Mini 2 which last had an auto updated some while back and is on iOS version 12.5.5

So no idea if or when Apple will be (urgently?) updating this older kit???

Its for people that have updated to 15.6 already. this had a flaw so 15.6.1 was issued,

If you have old tech then they are no longer updated after a point anyway and the risk is yours as you see fit

Im not fanatical about it but when you are informed that an update you did 5 days ago is a significant risk then im going to force the update through.

I will have to search for some info about older iPad and EoL in regard to iOS updates? When I said hers updated some while back I think the last one earlier this year........hence I wonder when they, perhaps, ceased supporting it?

So, the update(?) I think I recall may have been a 'point' release........but which and just when?

PS though I appreciate that tech moves on but IMVHO if a security flaw/exploit of note is identified then surely there is a moral obligation to ensure their older customers are protected and not made to be reliant on buying newer/newest kit 'just' to overcome a security flaw:(

In their security update, Apple said the vulnerability affects iPhones dating back to the 6S model, all iPad Pro models, iPad 5th generation and later, iPad Air 2 and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and the 7th generation iPod touch."

AFAIK and found the above referenced products all use iOS v15.x.x so is the exploit only in and relevant to that iOS version......or are older devices unaffected or not???

At which point should companies still be held responsible for older models? The iPad mini 2 you’re talking about was released in November 2013. 9 years is a long time in technology terms, there can’t be too many still in use.

One of the good things about Apple is that they provide operating system upgrades. My macbook pro 2013 model has just become unsupported with new OS which I was expecting. TBH it had quite a run with 8 OS updates in 9 years. I’m just hoping I get a similar life span from the M1 Mack book pro I purchased to replace it.
